I was just wondering if this was true. The nursery nurses told us that GBS could cause infections in the eyes and that is why we should let our LO have the eye goop. I have never heard of this, has anyone else? I know it's used for STD infections. Where they just trying to get us to use the goop or is this true?

It's a ploy. The antibiotic they put in babies' eyes is not one that is used to treat GBS infections.

Correct. Those antibiotics are given to baby to prevent eye infections due to clamydia or gonnorhea. They treat all babies as a routine because they assume that all women may have these STDs. If you know that you don't have these- there is no reason to have your child protected from them
