I am having extra bone removed from under my tongue (tori) that are affecting my speech, swallow, and more. However, the surgeon also does genioplasty and I don't really have much of a chin so I 'm thinking about having it done while I'm under. It wouldn't be a chin implant, but where they cut a piece of my chin out and move it forward and hold it into place with titanium screws. My profile has always affected my self-esteem and I get saliva in the corner of my mouth from my receded chin.
What are your honest thoughts on this? Is it a mistake, or will it be ok?
Thanks!!

Honestly?

I think the scariest thing about elective surgery is the anesthesia, which you're already undergoing.

I think you're probably beautiful without it, but can very much understand your desire.

and I think although most people on MDC wouldn't advocate cosmetic surgery, there is a very good chance I'd do it in your situation.

I am a little worried about going under, but I know that I need to get the tori out. I figured since I was already going under that I would have the chin done, and felt better since I wouldn't be having anything implanted.
Darn stress and night clinching, if I didn't have it then I wouldn't have the tori. I think a zinc deficiency also contributed to it as well. But, oh, am I worried.

I don't know. I'd probably do it if I was you and felt that way about it.

On a different note. If your children have this as well, you could look into Weston A. Price and orthotropics to see if you can do things to help "correct" it while their bones are still developing.

Oh I didn't mean to worry you further..Since you are already going under, it seems like a good time to do it if you are going to, no additional risk...You'll be fine
