Ok well thrush is but that purple stuff comes in a close second.

I will apply it to my breasts and then let my daughter nurse it off. (can't think of a better way to put it ).

It stains her teeth though. I've been giving her the GV on and off since the 9th. I started giving her Nystatin but it's not working. Is there any tips on how to get it to not stain her teeth? She's had purple teeth for 2 weeks now!!!:

No teeth yet, but it took well over a week to come off his nursing blister and there are still a couple spots on my nipples.
Looks like it's working on yours to! I know there were certainly no smiles when the thrush was bad and painful.

Uhm, I guess it's obvious my guy likes to do more with the boob than just nurse. It was in his ears too

i am no expert, so you probably have already done this, but i had a thrush issue this week with my son, and i used Grapefruit seed extract and acidophilus powder and it has worked immediatly. i don't think we had a bad case, so maybe thats why. what i did was 10 drops of GSE in one oz of water, then i swabbed my sons mouth and my breasts once and hour every hour we were awake. i also used it on his butt for the yeast rash...which is GONE in one day! acidophilous powder i put a little BM on it and made a paste, which i applied to his mouth and my nipple once a day. i also took 1/4 tablespoon of the powder in 1 oz water to drink.
i am sure you have been doing everything, so sorry if this doesn't help you, but it worked for me so i wanted to share.

and omg your kids are so freaking cute...

Oh my, your babes are darling! Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, gentian violet is some funky stuff. Not to rain on the party, but I'd suggest using GV sparingly and for not too long. It has been linked to mouth cancer (though the Australian study involved large amounts). It can also permanantly tattoo skin if it gets into a cut.

Absolutely- We only did it 3 times and that's because we were both in a lot of pain. My poor little dude's been on nystatin nearly his whole life, he hates the taste and it curdles my milk. I'm also elimination dieting (pretty aweful for a vegan), took antibiotics, gse and acidophilis. That crap is still in his mouth a little, but not enough to be uncomfortable. I hate yeast!

Geez, I'm sorry you two have had such a struggle with thrush! I feel for you and hope I didn't make you feel worse about using GV. That wasn't my intention. I personally hadn't known about the cancer link when I used it in my DD's mouth, so I just wanted to make sure everyone knows.

When our DD was 2 wks old, her pediatrician MISdiagnosed her with thrush. Initially, she put our DD on nystatin, and after two weeks, the light white-gray patch on her tongue hadn't gone away. I hated giving DD that stuff too because I don't think any kind of sugary med is good for a baby. Plus, yeast loves sugar, so how is it supposed to get rid of yeast (even if it's anti-fungal)?!? Next we tried GV, and after about a month of using it here and there for a few days, DD still had the light patch on her tongue. THEN the ped suggested that it probably wasn't thrush after all, just the normal color of her tongue!!!! ERRRRRR! I felt so irritated that we had put all this crap into our DD for nothing!!!! Poor little one. Anyway, when DD was ~4 months, the little patch disappeared for good. So, who knows if she had thrush or not. If so, it was a small case that her own body could clear up itself.

Good luck to you!

Thank you! I also appreciate hearing that I wasn't preachy. That's the last thing I want to be. I prefer to teach AND learn by example/experience. Best wishes!
