Gentian violet turned me gold?!?

I have been having a lot of pain when my 8 month old daughter nurses. It started on one side, but over the week it has begun affecting the other side. There is some redness, swelling, and cracking. 3 Lactation consultants have said that it "looks kind of yeast-y". So in hopes that this is yeast (which is curable) and not chiropractic (which is expensive) I have started using Gentian Violet once a day. It is 1%, with 10% alcohol and the rest purified water. Yesterday I applied it to both nipples and it was just dark purple. Today I applied it again, and it is purple, but some areas of the nipple are turning a bright metallic gold color. Very shiny. Very strange. The only lac consultant I could reach today had no clue why this is happening. The only thing I can think that I did differently today is I applied a vinegar/water solution to my nipples a little while before I applied the Gentian violet. I did that yesterday, too, but yesterday it was a number of hours after the vinegar that I applied the gentian violet. It doesn't hurt any more than normal, and there's really nothing different to report than it's gold! Has this happened to anyone else?

The only thing I can think of is that the GV had a reaction with the vinegar or something on your skin?
I had this happen once, too. I had applied vinegar beforehand. It was the same color the neck of the bottle is, and I've read things about GV causing a metallic gold color, so I'm sure it's normal.
