Cross post to this thread:

Georgia mommas, can you give me some feedback on the PBS Salsa program. We are considering purchasing the set as our PBS station does not carry it. We did call/write to our local station, but as of yet no response.

Did you like it for preschooler age children? Is it like Dora and Diego?
Do you think the children learn a bit of spanish from the program?
Any other thoughts would be most appreciated. TIA

Back in the late 1990s, our PBS station would air SALSA. It was great. It is geared for 4-8 year olds to learn Spanish and is a total immersion program. First there is a (real) woman who describes first to the adults and then to the children what words in Spanish they are going to learn. Then they use puppets to portray famous stories (adapted, not necessarily with the traditional story line) in Spanish such as Goldlocks and the 3 Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, The 3 Billy Goats Gruff, The Little Red Hen, the 3 Pigs, and Jack and the Cornstalk. They are all very humorous and not anything "teacherish", but yet the children really do understand what's going on and pick up some Spanish. The web site http://168.28.132.151/peachstar/sals...ish/homepg.htm has more details.

Thanks Shifra !
I viewed the website and it sounds great, and how super to have the additional activities to go with it.
Cost is really high !! Yikes for the 42 set, but worth it if it teaches some spanish.
I so notice that the kiddos that do watch Dora and Diego over and over do pick up a bit of Spanish.
This seemed along those lines ??
Thanks again.
