They are great as burp clothes, but they are SO thin that I don't even know HOW you are supposed to use them as diapers. I like good old fashioned CPFs. They are pretty cheap (about $2 each, and I think the Gerbers are $1 each, so not a huge amount more) and then you can use just about any cover you like. We LOVE fuzzi bunz, but they are kinda expensive so we use them at night. During the day we use Bummis.
Not much to them. They have a poly fill inner
I vote a waste of your time and money!

I have used the birdseye diapers that you have to fold the way you like and IMO they are great for the newborn stage. I used them more them the Infant prefolds I had they were less bulky. My dd is 15 months and I still use them when dd has a diaper rash and has to be changed more frequently.

I am just getting starting to learn about all this but i had the gerber diapers as burp clothes and just knowing what they feel like i don't see how anyone could cd with them. i found a few sites that you can get cpfs for 1.15-1.50 and are like 8 ply or something like that.

the 2 sites i found that have those prices are www.cottonbabies.com and www.diaperco.com they also have indian prefolds.

just my tad of research so far!!
I use them for diapers for my son. I fold them in thirds with a microfiber towel in the center and lay it in my cover. I haven't had any problems with them. I haven't had any leaks.

Gerber makes different types of diapers. The diaper service quality (DSQ) prefolds are the ones I use. I love them because they are sort of in between the infant pfs and the premium pfs that I have. DS has outgrown infants, but the premiums are still bulky.

Honestly, I've heard people say horrible things about the Gerber dipes, but ours are really fine. They are not the polyfill ones and they are not the birdseye ones. They quilt up almost as much as the bleached pfs I've bought online. As a matter of fact, I just took some out of the dryer and was admiring them. They are soft and fluffy (and at the moment, oh so clean).

I have never tried the dsq prefolds, but I used to use the poly-fill prefolds before I *knew any better*. They were HORRIBLE! I actually gave up cding because of them, then found dsq prefolds (not gerber) online and started again. I would beg you not to get the poly-fill prefolds because they don't even work as burp cloths.
I use the ones from "Babies R Them" as stuffers. I use one prefold and one hemp and I dont have any leaking problems.

The DSQ one's are the good ones!

only I sold mine when DS started fitting into premiums, I kinda wished I had kept them though. You can buy the DSQ ones online at target.com, they are the ones with the blue edging, they also have gerber stamped on them. I wish they sold these ones in stores, then the gerber diapers wouldn't get such a bad rap and people new to cloth would have more options if they didn't want to buy online.

The poly-fill ones were worthless IMO, the thinner birdseyes ones are okay, you just have to use a good doubler with them. I have also heard good things about he gerber birdseye flats though I haven't used them yet.

I CD'ed my DD (at 16 years old to boot) for the first 6 months and only had Sears to shop at and this was all they had. Let me tell you, NEVER AGAIN. It was fine back then with only one kid, having to change a diaper every 30 minutes, and wake up a billion times a night, but it's just not worth it. I don't know what other options might have been available to me in 1995, but I am SO glad there are better CD's now!
Polyester does NOT absorb anything. And why Gerber can fill their "diapers" with polyester and get away with actually calling them "diapers" is beyond me. Don't even bother to use them as burp cloths. HOwever their birdseye ones are okay doubled up as a backup though I wouldn't want to use them full-time. I use their birdseye flats laid in a bummis wrap at home during the day sometimes just for quick changes and they are fine. MUCH thinner than normal flats but they do the job. I wouldn't waste your time or money on those Gerber cruddy diapers. Get some chinese prefolds or indian prefolds online(I like Dina at www.nopins4baby.com. FAST shipping and I believe she still ships free) plus a few snappi's or pins and a couple of bummis covers and call it a day. By the way, those Gerber vinyl pants don't do ANYTHING as covers and they leave MAJOR red marks on chubby thighs. Just thought I'd warn you.

ooh that's good to know
Thanks, I'll have to see if mine does, because if you order them online and pay shipping it ends up being more than CPF's.

We got some Gerber prefolds from well-meaning folks who heard that we would be cd-ing. They work great for catching spit-up and what not, but aren't nearly as nice as our "real" green earth and baby's textile brand pre-folds.
i use the gerber flats. I used them as diapers and doublers but now i've got some square baby textiles birdseye flats so i just use the gerber ones as doublers/stuffers. in fact i just bought some more yesterday.
