Gerber Teeth Cleaner = Breastfeeding Ingredients

HUH? Well, I didn't have a "toothbrush" for little man... one of those index finger plastic doo-hickeys that has soft bristles. Anyhow, at the store the other day I bought a Gerber one and it had a trial size of toothpaste that is "safe to swallow" and is made for infants 3m+. It says, "Made with ingredients like those found in mother's breastmilk." But, the ingredients on the pacakge are: Glycerin, Water, Xylitol, Sorbitol, Propylene Glycol, Pectin, Xanthan Gum, Colloidal Silicon Dioxide, Natural Apple flavor, Natural Banana Flavor, Calcium Lactate. Um, I am not a medical doctor nor a LC but this doesn't seem "natural" to me.
Am I nuts?
Do ya'll use these products? What do you use to clean DC teeth?

I'm wondering too at what age and what kind of toothpaste I should use on DS...
Funny those ingredients aren't in my breast milk-THANKFULLY

They are such marketing scammers!

I wouldn't give that to my DD for sure!
I've been using Weleda children's toothpaste- A VERY VERY small dab on a wash cloth and I rub on her gums then a rinse a couple times w/water on the cloth....

Good luck

Funny, I was thinking about this today! Now that DS has 4 teeth, I figured it was about time to pick up a little toothbrush for him.

We won't use toothpaste for awhile. In fact, I didn't start using toothpaste with DD, until she had started eating some sugary foods (sticky dehydrated fruit, popsicles every once in awhile, and *eep* the occasional chocolate or candy!) We picked up some Burt's Bees kid toothpaste, and she loves brushing her teeth.
I think that starting early (even without toothpaste) is important, so that they get used to the feeling of having their teeth brushed.
DS has no teeth yet, but I don't think we'll use toothpaste on him for quite a while. IME, it's really the action of the brush against the teeth that does most of the cleaning, the mint part is mostly just to make your mouth "feel" fresh, though some ingredients do help the cleaning process along somewhat. When (if) the time comes that DS needs that extra help, we'll probably either use plain baking soda, or Burt's Bees baby toothpaste.
Funny, I just bought DD her first toothbrush today. :) She has 7 teeth, and just likes to chew on it. I have some Burt's Bees toothpaste for when we start to use toothpaste. For now, we are just going to use water.
We use the only brand they sell at the store that can be swallowed...
FYI-- the burt's bees one says for 2 yrs and up.
Burt's Bees and my dentist agree -- toothpaste isn't necessary until at least 2 years old.

DD is 16 months and has all but 1 of her teeth (aside from the 2nd year molars) and we just use water and a toothbrush. That seems to work just fine.
