I'm in search of the 'old' 5-ply training pants. The ones in stores here have been changed somehow and aren't as effective at catching a miss....they are called soft care pants or something. Anyhow, if anyone either has any that their dc has outgrown (size 2T), or knows where I can get some I'd be ever-thankful! :)

If you don't mind buying new online, try a Google search for "gerber 5 ply training pants". I happened to do that search a few days ago, and it turned up several online stores that still seem to be selling the 5-ply.

But at the time, I never succeeded in finding the information I was looking for. Maybe you can help. It looks like these are pretty high rise -- is that true? (I look for baby pants that sit well right under their belly, since they tend to end up there on my dd's regardless.) And how absorbant are they...for example, relative to a coverless prefold or flat, or Poquitos if you've tried them, or plain pants?

I'm looking for something cooler than a full diaper for my little dd to wear, but since she will often be wearing it in public with no outer layer, I'm trying to avoid pee just shooting through the training pants and sling onto the floor (have actually managed to end up in that situation more than once before
). Right now I'm having good luck with sewing a little birdseye pad into 2T panties, but since I am out of "free" hand-me-down panties and am not crazy about sewing, I thought the Gerbers might be worth trying... Are they?

i don't knwo if our gerber's are 5 ply, we go them at target and they were kinda $$$$pricey (i like things for free

but i do not see them making that big of a difference if i miss a pee

i have missed pees at target (WHILE LOOKING AT PANTIES FOR DD!!!!)
and at our food co-op

i always carry a couple prefolds in th ediaepr bag, adn i just mopped the pee up with those, put it in the wet bag, and quickly changed dd's panties adn shorts..adn kept on going down the aisle!

no one even noticed!

I don't know if they are 5-ply, but I bought some Gerber training pants at Wal-mart, only 3 in a pack. They work well, especially if he has sweatpants on, then nothing ends up on the floor. Sometimes with just the training pants and no regular pants some pee can end up on the floor.
