Germany MDC Gathering??

Hello!

Who would be up for a Germany gathering this summer some time on a weekend? Any ideas where or when?
There are some nice places around Kassel or Northern Bavaria that could be used inexpensively for groups, or we could go camping somewhere?

Any ideas or input are welcome!

Well, it certainly sounds more worth while then the jaunt to where my mom's and tot's group is gathering this week. (why do I even try?)

Camping could be fun. We like dog friendly. Some place great to walk, since we are in Germany. DH just started a new job today so he doesn't officially get vacation for 6 months but he'd be more than up for scheduling a camping trip weekend. DS and I will be visiting grandma the first 3 weeks in June so July or August would be great. We could have a 4th of July party! YeeeHaaa! I don't know if we could schedule AROUND school breaks since we have little ones and it will be less crowded?

Holly, - nice idea! But, aren't you about to give birth????? Let's not bite off more than we can chew. Maybe a big old BBQ within reasonable driving distance of your home with overnight camping optional?
Vicitoria,

I actually just started the thread to see if anyone was interested in having a gathering this summer, and which dates would be convenient for all.
We'll most likely have to have it in a camping or 'common' place, as we are pretty spread out all over the country.
Scheduling around school summer holidays should be possible, depending on the region. A best bet might be early or mid-July to avoid crowds - but I think some of the northern regions, Scandinavian countries and maybe BeNeLux have July summer holidays. So, we'll just have to hope that the place we choose isn't too crowded.
I AM about to give birth, which is maybe why I'm anxious to 'get the ball rolling' before I'm occupied with a new baby the next couple of weeks/months.

The person who hosted the MDC Germany gatherings the past couple of years is no longer living in Germany, but I thought maybe we'd all want to start a 'tradition' of a gathering in a neutral place. Perhaps it shouldn't fall on one person to organise everything - we can all bring food for a potluck type luncheon/dinner/BBQ, and I don't mind making a phone call to reserve a camping ground or something similar.
But I know that some of the nicer, group camping places tend to be reserved months in advance, which is why I'm thinking about it now.

PS As for biting off more than I can chew, Stuttgart is quite a long drive for most of you living in the Rhineland region. Much too long for a day trip, in my opinion. Besides, much as I'd love to 'host' a Gathering, our 82 sq meters (including balcony) is much too small, and we don't have access to a garden.

Gee, I don't think our 82 sqare meters includes the balcony!

PS I didn't mean to sound condescending. I just thought it would be a shame if you were to do all the planning and then see it was too much for you. I had your best interest in mind thinking it would sad to have it and not have you there!

I am totally interested. I am in the Bitburg area, though. Major cites that are close to me is Tier, Wittlich. I might not be able to camp seeing as my little one is coming in May but whatever anyone decides I am game.

My German geography is not very good. What state is Bitburg in?

I'd like to see if we could find something that would enable us to have indoor accomodation (like an BIO farm renting out inexpensive rooms or something) with camping also as an option. Possibly somewhere around Kassel or Aschafffenberg?
My dh has never been camping in his life, and has told me he doesn't want to start now, with an almost 3yo and a (then) 2-3 month old babe.

If I am correct you are in the area of Stuttgart, which means I am about 1 hr and 30 min away from you. I wish I had a map with me right now to give you a general idea of where I am. All, I know is that Tier is one of the major cities that are close to me. When I get the chance I will try and see what other major cites are in my area. Which isn't much becuase I am out in the country because my parents are military. So, we are in Spangdalem. Maybe you might know that base.
Though my only problem is I don't have my German lincense. By then I might have it though. Hopefully that it is. It's just with the baby coming on the way and me having to get a resident permit to live here. It has just been so busy, busy all the time.

hello

I'm always up for a gathering!
We could meet up in/around Saarbruecken.
It is not the most exciting area of Germany but not too far from Stuttgart, Bitburg, and very close to K-Town (If I'm guessing correctly what Ktown is. If you really are in the town that I think you are in we are very close and should try to get together soon!)
I'm in Berlin but would be up for something! I'm not sure camping would work, unless there were cabins, as I'll have my 2 newborns with. But keep me posted!

Hi! That's so cool that you've lived in Taiwan!
How did you like it there?
Okay, I've been doing some searching and asking (taking advantage of my free time next to my new baby who loves to sleep all the time). I'm looking for a BIO/organic place that would be more sensitive to our needs. It looks like we might be able to do something for one or two nights on a farm-type place. Average cost of what I've found so far is 30EUR per family per night. Including WC/douche and breakfast. Many people have said that they wouldn't really be up to do camping because of having small babies.
Ideally I'd like to find a place where there would be inexpensive accomodation, but optional camping for those families who'd like to camp. I'm going to start sending PMs to those families who've expressed interest with some of the options and locations I've been able to find so far.
It's all a bit hard because of the World Cup stuff coming up in June, meaning that a proposed date for the gathering would need to be July/August.
What about the weekend of the 4th of July? Or is that still during the World Cup?
Again, any feedback is welcome

Hi Holly-
How's the family?

A bio farm sounds good to me. I've always wanted to check out those type places. I imagine that I will be without dh again, as he is desperately trying to finish writing his dissertation. Also, I do not have a car so anyplace we go would have to be accessible by train or bus for us if we were to come (unless of course I can get my friend to come too and bring us in her big car).

Hi Holly - I've been meaning to respond to your PM but this is the first I've been on since last time - my little girl has been sick and well....argh..I will answer back when I have more than just a few seconds to.

But anyways, just checking in here to say I think the Bio Farm is an awesome idea. I am up for camping with the baby, as long as its in a place where she can get some sleep and has a place where i can shower!

Hello everyone,

Take a peek in your PM box for more specfic details on a gathering suggestion and dates.

Swiss Mama,
Sorry to hear your dd has been ill. I hope you've both been able to get out and get some fresh spring air - temperatures in SW Germany are supposed to take a dip the next few days. Not that the weather service is always correct...
