Hi--I've been on antibiotics for almost 2 weeks for Lyme disease. (They caught it early, thank goodness.) I've been taking them every 12 hours, and in between eating lots of yogurt and taking acidophilus to try to keep the helpful bacteria in my body going. (I haven't taken antibiotics in almost 10 years so this feels like wiping out a decade's work ).

I'm wondering if anyone knows other ways to get those good bugs back. I am fairly bloaty now and I think it's probably because my intestines are working as well. (I typically *never* have problems in that regard...) Suggestions? I will be taking the doxycyline for another 3 days. I'm actually considering drinking a bit of compost tea or something...wheee! (or, bleck! depending on how you look at it)

I know I could just go to the health food store and buy various capsules, but does anyone have any more 'homemade' suggestions?

I'm so sorry about the Lyme disease! Glad it was caught early, though. Good for you for being off antibiotics for a decade. As one who struggles with chronic candida issues, I can tell you that when antibiotics wipe out your bacteria-- good and bad-- then candida can come back strong. It feeds on sugar, so lower (or eliminate) your sugars. That means even the unprocessed ones, like honey, turbinado, etc. The other thing I'm focusing on now is lowering frustration/anxiety. Apparently that type of stress creates a perfect environment for candida to thrive. Could that be an issue with you?

Great that you are taking acidophilis-- make sure it's a strong one. And I would recommend the yogurt to be plain (can sweeten with stevia and a little pureed fruit) to reduce sugars. Hang in there!
