There is a dentist in town that is trained in removing amalgam fillings in a safe way. I called his office and got some information including what kind of cost I am looking at. I couldn't believe how much it's going to be and am wondering if this is normal. The consultation, which includes talking to a nutritionist, watching a movie and talking to me about the mercury fillings and the importance of removing them, will be $375. Then, to replace the filling with a composite filling (which lasts 5-7 years) would cost $240-300). To replace them with a porcelain crown (which lasts for 15-20 years) would be $890-920 a piece. I couldn't believe that! I don't know if there is an additional cost to also remove the dumb things. I have 7 fillings. I don't have that kind of money and now I feel like I'm stuck with these stupid, toxic fillings in my mouth. Any advice.

I got mine out with a mercury-free dentist in Austin, I mailed recent x-rays to them so they'd know how involved it was (they were basic fillings, not big or in odd places), and it was $220 per tooth. And composites should last a LOT longer than 5-7 years, if that's how long he says his last in his patients, I'd be moving along to find someone better at placing composite (sorta sounds like he's steering people toward the more expensive option).

I'd keep looking. Some dentists don't advertise as holistic/biological/mercury-free, but they still use good safety protocols. It's just a lot harder to locate them when that's the case.
