Hello mamas,
I have made the switch to full time BG's since I can no longer do the prefold/snappi/cover thing with my acrobatic 9 month old. So I have all these unbleached prefolds and most of them are stained. I'd like to try to get the stains out before I pack them away for the next babe. Is it possible? I have heard putting them out in the sun works. How long/how many times do you have to put them out to get the stains out? Will they come out completely? It's hard to believe the sun will get them completely out, although I'm sure they would fade. If I run them through a few washes with oxyclean, will that work (I never used oxyclean when washing them which is prob. why they stained, but I just got some). Anything else I can try?

I've always just laid them out in the sun right out of the wash. Even if it is rather cloudy it still works great. Sometimes I've had to do it more than once, especially if it is a fitted where some of the stain might be hidden in a fold or crease, but I'm always amazed at how good they look afterwards!

Try it, you'll like it.

Honestly until you try you don't really know. All winter I wait for a nice spring day so that I can get my diapers back in shape. Sunning really does do wonders on the stains. I would try that first, whatever other method you want if a couple of sunnings straight from the wash didn't do the trick.

the sun is a great bleacher...I have been amazed by it at times.

I remember when dd was a newborn, w/ that yellow, soupy poo that goes everywhere, that I had a prefold that was covered in it...absolutely plastered yellow. I washed it and it looked no better. Once I hung it out in direct sunlight, the yellow vanished!!! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself!
