My friend gave me some of her old prefolds and they REEK of bleach. Not only this, but I used them on my DS (after washing two different times in hot with borax and two hot rinses) and he got a horrible blistery rash that took two weeks to go away. I'm not sure what kind of detergent she uses, so that combined with the bleach seems to be a really bad thing for DS's skin. Is there anything I can do to get all of this crap out of the diapers?

I'd boil them with a little baking soda to strip them then just keep washing HOT/COLD/COLD with a little regular-old Dawn and sun to dry until the smell goes away.

I had to bleach my kids diapers the other day to get the ammonia stink out. My son is pretty darn sensitive to bleach so I had to just keep rinsing. I washed like usual and then kept rinsing until I didn't smell bleach anymore, about 6 rinses. But if they're just prefolds I'd probably boil them.

I'd go with boiling them

You can neutralize the bleach smell with an acid... try washing with a litre(4 cups)or two of plain white vinegar on hot. Rinse well.
