1. where were you raised and what was your favorite thing about it?
i was raised in southern lower michigan in a town of about 13,000. my favorite thing about our town was the diversity. it was largely african-american and hispanic and i didn't feel as sheltered as my cousins who lived up-north.

2. what is your favorite type of music/artists/bands etc?
jewel, nora jones, and willie nelson are my current favorites.

3. what is one of your life's passions?
breastfeeding and child-led weaning...seriously.

4. what do you like to sing in the shower?
right now, "angel flying too close to the ground" by willie nelson

gypsy is a black lab, 6 years old. we got her two months after we got married.

i have always wanted to have a farm and rescue abused farm animals.

smell...it is the least important in my relationship to my daughter.

Denver, Colorado. I loved being that close to the mountains, and that you could see forever. I love the weather 90% of the year.

Depends on that day -I listen to everything from Eminem to Indigo Girls. :-D I love Kate Bush, and Melissa Etheridge. Currently I am on a classical kick. I don't like country much at all.

Theatre and art.

I don't sing in the shower.

1 cat - named Baby - she is 16 (?) years old

Anticipation

Yes! Though it comes and goes.. not so much recently, think my uterus had a growth spurt and she's got more room now or something

In different places in the Upper Midwest, mostly smaller towns. I liked living in a very small town (pop about 2,000) where I felt really safe and free.

Jazz standards.

Collecting perfume.

4. what do you like to sing in the shower?
I like to sing, but for some reason, never in the shower.

No pets, I love cats but DH is allergic. My parents have a gray tabby cat named Molly who is kind of 'my' kitty.

6. if money weren't an issue, what would you spend your life doing?
Right now, I would want to move to France to study perfumery

7. if you had to choose to lose one of the five senses, which would it be and why?
Probably sight--I would not want to give up hearing music, being able to taste good food, or smell perfume.

Snacking without guilt

9. what is your least favorite thing about being pregnant?
Having to tell people (still haven't told all my friends and co-workers yet!).

A little. Not feeling any distinct kicks or jabs, just flutters.

1. where were you raised and what was your favorite thing about it?
Pullman, Washington, home of the WSU Cougars. Kind of a small town feel... Didn't really grow up all that impressed with it though (even after almost 20 years). It was more survival from there rather than enjoyment of the area. I much preferred where I went to college (Moscow, Idaho) and where my grandparents lived (very small towns on either side of WA).

2. what is your favorite type of music/artists/bands etc?
Eclectic at best. I can go from Matchbox 20 to Dixie Chicks to the Oak Ridge Boys Sing Christmas.

3. what is one of your life's passions?
Being a good mom. Being as much like my grandmothers are possible - they were awesome women.

4. what do you like to sing in the shower?
Last week it was 12 Days of Christmas. Normally I don't really sing in the shower.

5. do you have pets, names/kinds?
Do dust bunnies and shag carpeting shedding bits count?

6. if money weren't an issue, what would you spend your life doing?
Being a comfortable sahm. Maybe open my own little business retailing non-mainstream parenting items, but I don't know if I'd tire of that or not. Spend our family time traveling the world and visiting family as much as possible. Build our own house that would be very efficient, somewhat self-sustaining if possible, with enough land for us to have some fun growing our own stuff. I wouldn't mind an extra little stove to use for canning out in the mudroom, either (Grandma had a setup like that).

7. if you had to choose to lose one of the five senses, which would it be and why?
Probably smell if I had to. It would make cleaning the bathroom much easier.

8. what is your favorite thing about being pregnant?
The cute belly and still fun movement around 5-6 months.

9. what is your least favorite thing about being pregnant?
Months 0-4 and 7-10. I'm a miserable pregnant woman. With a short torso (i.e. I can't breathe, eat, sit comfortably and have constant heartburn from 6+ months on)

10. are you feeling the baby move yet?
I may have been kicked two or three times, but nothing steady yet.

San Francisco Bay Area. My favorite thing about it is the weather. I'm a total cold weather wimp.

Raising my child (hopefully someday children) the absolute best way I can. To me, there is NOTHING more important than that. Jackie Kennedy Onassis summed up my feelings perfectly when she once said, "If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters much."

I don't sing in the shower.

I'd be a stay-at-home-mom.

By process of elimination, it would have to be touch. Sight and sound are critical, and I love food too much to give up taste and smell.

The first time I had the realization that I was feeling my baby move inside of me, it was as if the earth had stopped spinning. I have never felt that kind of love before.

9. what is your least favorite thing about being pregnant?

Ugh, the nausea, for sure!!!

Yep, now it's graduated from flutters and tickles to full on pokes, prods, thumps, and bumps.

Lower San Joaquin Valley, CA. Have to say there wasn't much I liked about it. Perhaps that because I hated it so much it spurred me to achieve more, to want to see more of the world? Or maybe I would have anyway-- don't know.

The right to choose how to birth based on a well informed decision and having a full range of choices about that birth (without harrassment) and providing women with true evidence based information about pregnancy and birth

I was raised in a small Wisconsin town (50,000) on a lake. My favorite
thing about it was that it was on the water and so we had a boat and did
lots of water things. Maybe that explains my love for the ocean and why
I love to watch the swells come in and go to the beach. (Right now we
are having huge surf and we can hear it all night long pounding the
shore while we are laying in bed.)

2. what is your favorite type of music/artists/bands etc?

I like well written music with a life affirming message. I listen to all sort
of music, lots of hawaiian, classical, jazz, and 'christian' music.

3. what is one of your life's passions?

My passion's beside my kids and husband, are homeschooing right now.

I don't sing in the shower.

We don't have any pets presently but we do feed and take care of the

What I am doing now, being a stay at home mom and home educating

Central Pennsylvania. Growing up, I liked the fact that the lead stories on the news typically involved the weather, rather than a lot of violence and gore.

I also liked the fact that we *have* weather-- it's not the same temperature all year round, things change drastically. I still think that it's incredibly cool that one day it can be boiling hot and you're walking down the sidewalk trying to figure out how to take more clothing off without violating any public decency clothing, and then four months later there's snow on the ground and you're wondering if it would really be irrational to try to make a snowsuit for your 200+ pound behind.

2. what is your favorite type of music/artists/bands etc?

Right now, I'm really into the genre of music that I call "booty shakin'."

I like lots of different kinds of music, though, and my favorite bands include Simon & Garfunkel, R.E.M., Eminem, Korn, Tori Amos, and many more.

3. what is one of your life's passions?

Hmmm... I have many passions. Many, many passions.

4. what do you like to sing in the shower?

These days, I take most of my showers with the kids and sing whatever they're singing/asking me to sing. Sometimes, I sing regular songs in which I substitute words like "BeanBean," "BooBah," and "mininess" for the actual lyrics. When I do get to take a shower without the kids, I am totally silent because I don't want to wake them up.

5. do you have pets, names/kinds?

No pets, we live in an apartment. Sometimes I feel like I live with wild animals, though.

6. if money weren't an issue, what would you spend your life doing?

Random research projects (I love research) and having babies. Mike and I have already decided that if we ever win a big lottery, we'd like to keep on having kids until we couldn't have any more.

I absolutely love raising my kids, and can only imagine the kinds of fun adventures that we'd have if money wasn't such a huge concern in our lives.

7. if you had to choose to lose one of the five senses, which would it be and why?

Tough call! I'm very dependant on my senses.

I don't know, I think I'd rather give up something else, like all of my hair or all of my toes.

Feeling the baby move inside of me.

It's just such a cool feeling, knowing that there's a real live person in there!

Needing (not wanting, *needing*) to get more than 6 hours of sleep to be a decent, functioning human being. When I don't get it I'm miserable, but when I do get it I feel guilty for wasting all that time.

I was raised in a small town in SE Pennsylvania called Kennett Square. It was kind of the best of both worlds: small town and then we were only an hour outside of Philadelphia and 20 minutes outside of Wilmington, DE. It's the "Mushroom Capital of the World!"

2. what is your favorite type of music/artists/bands etc?
I pretty much like it all; right now I'm listening to a lot of "indie" stuff: Ted Leo, Sleater-Kinney, Elliot Smith

Besides my daughter and my gestating son, and of course, dh? Maybe natural birth...but I'm still trying to figure out what else I'm passionate about!

I was raised in Texas and Louisiana, my favorite thing about Louisiana is the culture and laid back attitude, things just move slower down there. I love the diversity of Texas.

When I am alone in the car I usually listen to country, but also enjoy artist's like U2, Blackeyed Peas, Diana Krall, Al Green etc... I have pretty ecletic musical taste.

Right now it is my son, and the new baby on the way. If I could do it without leaving them, I would go to nursing school and become a midwife.

Since I am usually in the tub with Ds, I sing alot of "splish, splish, I was taken a bath!!"

A suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. I loved the small town feel, especially in the fall. And of course, the Chiefs (Woo hoo! I have tickets in 3 wks!)

2. what is your favorite type of music/artists/bands etc? Praise and worship music - right now I'm listening to Redemption Songs by Jars of Clay. Soooo good and I love the bluegrassy feel to it.

Jesus. We want to be missionaries eventually, and I love sharing about Jesus with people and studying His Word.

4. what do you like to sing in the shower? Praise and worship songs or hymns. I sing a lot, so I love the acoustics in the tub.

2 guinea pigs (S'more and Cookie). They were a "gift" from my dh's student.

Missions, hands down. I would love to have a clinic overseas and train nurses and midwives and do Bible studies.

Um, smell? No more poop! And food wouldn't taste near as good, so I could lose some weight. But no more new baby smell either. And I love the smell of their hair.

I listen to just about everything. Hip hop and rap to classical and country. To tell you the truth I haven't listened to "adult" music in quite awhile. Usually we have DDs music on which is classic childrens songs, laurie berkner etc. You know how many times I've been in the car alone and i get where I'm going and realized I had kids music on the whole time w/o even noticing?

Learning new things, my family and being the best mom I know how.

4. what do you like to sing in the shower?

Currently my shower radio/ CD player is dead, but like I said before, what I listen to depends on the day.

I have a big fishtank w/ fish and 1 yorkie named oscar who is about 3.5 yrs. old.

I would build a huge housing complex and adopt all the children to teens who are waiting for homes. We would be just one big family. A girl can dream can't she?

Smell. It wouldn't hinder my daily life and I wouldn't puke as much.

Everything except the nausea, vomiting and exhaustion.

Oh, I guess I can't count. I am going to the Chiefs/Cowboys game the next week.

1. where were you raised and what was your favorite thing about it?

I grew up in Los Angeles. I love LA even though lots of people hate it, or maybe because lots of people hate it. To be honest, there are plenty of things wrong with LA. But there was always a lot going on, art shows, raw culture (and clashing)... and the opportunity to go to the beach in a bathing suit (something I can't do in San Francisco). I love the feeling I'd get from the city. Something was always happening no matter what time of night it was. You could almost feel people's struggling to survive and well... lonlieness. I think LA is one of the lonliest places.

I actually grew up in San Fernando Valley, the home of the porn industry as we know it today, which is cool on one level, but really not that great of a place to grow up in to be comepletely honest. I did have a lot of great summers that I just spent swimming in friend's pools and playing marco polo, and I don't think anything's better than that though.

2. what is your favorite type of music/artists/bands etc?

I love almost all music. I used to say that I'd never listen to country. But now I love it as much as anything else. My music tastes are all over the map: Dwight Yoakam (he made me not hate the accordion), Red Hot Chili Peppers (Under the Bridge is my certified LA song - see above), Front Line Assembly (my style of industrial), M83 (space-rock-ambient-I dont' know), and Team Sleep/Deftones (current flavor of the month) - and metal, blues, jazz, roots, folk, and bluegrass. Pretty much all and everything.

3. what is one of your life's passions?

Passions? Well, my husband.

And art, I suppose. Contemporary art, not modern art made 50 years ago. I used to really enjoy dancing as an art form, way to be free, etc. I used to love baking desserts, but I have no oven at the moment, and I don't crave sweets anyways with this pregnancy. I do LOVE making ice cream though, but still haven't felt like doing so with this pregnancy. I love to make desserts for other people though, since it's good to see them happy.

4. what do you like to sing in the shower?

I think I have a horrible voice, and I don't really sing all that much. I mostly just moan in the shower, cause I have a hard time waking up and the shower feels good. But I dance in the shower sometimes.

5. do you have pets, names/kinds?

I have a rottie mix named Moose. He drools a lot, but he's super cute.

6. if money weren't an issue, what would you spend your life doing?

Well I have a hard time picturing not needing money. I would probably travel the world, or take one of those cruises that goes around the world. And then I'd start an ice cream business, although I'm not sure where I'd open it.

7. if you had to choose to lose one of the five senses, which would it be and why?

I think I'd give up sight first. All the other senses are just too enriched and full for me to give them up. But then again taste is not that big a deal. But then being blind would ruin my planned cruise around the world. And losing my taste buds would kind of kill my ice cream business too. :*(

8. what is your favorite thing about being pregnant?

I'm not sure yet, since this is my first pregnancy. It's probably going to be seeing my new baby and holding him in my arms and feeling like a family.

9. what is your least favorite thing about being pregnant?

Hands down it's morning sickness.

10. are you feeling the baby move yet?

I think so, sometimes. I'm not sure yet, although I do seem to feel tugging on my bellybutton. But maybe that's just me growing.

I'm a pretty fervent environmentalist (don't ask me to justify 3 kids, though

: ). I'm really into soil and plants.

I usually have some kid music in my head (it's just too catchy!). We just came back from a trip, and my kids encountered "Bob the Builder" (well, and TV, really) for the 1st time, and right now, I've got that theme song in my head.

Nope.

Gardening.

I wouldn't really want to lose any of them, but the one I guess I could do without most easily is smell/taste.

I grew up in Ottawa, which although very pretty was deadly boring at the time. I much prefer the easy-going vibe and 'aliveness' of Montreal, where I've lived for 15 years.

my favorites are all over the map - in the car right now are: Beastie Boys, U2, Liz Phair, Norah Jones, Black Eyed Peas, Jack Johnson, KT Tunstall, Chemical Brothers, BTK, Soundgarden. At home... Metric, Barenaked Ladies, Pete Yorn... Jazz standards are a favorite (we played them non-stop at our wedding and my oldest is named after Cole Porter)... we are really liking Madeleine Peyroux right now. The only types of music I don't really listen to are new country and opera.

3. what is one of your life's passions?

my family, food and photography (oops, that was more than one)

4. what do you like to sing in the shower?

right now.. KT Tunstall's Miniature Disasters but tomorrow will be something else

travelling the world with my family, eating everything, everywhere and learning to cook the various cuisines plus taking photos in my spare (!) time.

7. if you had to choose to lose one of the five senses, which would it be and why?

hmmm, maybe hearing. i'd rather lose the hair on my toes though.

8. what is your favorite thing about being pregnant?

the baby at the end!

9. what is your least favorite thing about being pregnant?

the spazziness (I am so clumsy right now) and the sciatic nerve pain (it's been tamed right now by the osteopath, hooray!)

10. are you feeling the baby move yet?

yes, regularly since 12.5 weeks

1. where were you raised and what was your favorite thing about it?
I was raised in 2 places: in the Salt Lake Valley (UT) until I was 12, and then in Mesa AZ for the rest. I liked Salt Lake because it had 4 distinct seasons. I love the snow. I like Mesa because everything is spaced out -- ie there are parking lots for all the stores, the roads are wide, and things are newer. But honestly, I have traveled a lot, and can see the benefits and beauties of nearly everywhere I've been.

2. what is your favorite type of music/artists/bands etc?
I love music! I don't appreciate rap or hip hop music as much though. I love Nora Jones and Dido. I also love jazz, but my husband doesn't, so I don't get to listen to it as much.

3. what is one of your life's passions?
Learning -- anything and everything.

4. what do you like to sing in the shower?
It's usually songs I've made up (usually involving my DD

)

5. do you have pets, names/kinds?
No pets!

6. if money weren't an issue, what would you spend your life doing?
Anything and everything. I'd travel a lot. I'd bring a nanny wherever we traveled so my husband and I could do things solo sometimes.

7. if you had to choose to lose one of the five senses, which would it be and why?
Trying to answer this is brings the saddest thoughts. If I give up sight, I would miss out on all the beautiful seasons and the sunsets. If I give up touch, I won't be able to feel my baby's soft skin. If I give up taste or smell I won't be able to enjoy the lucious foods of the world, or smell the world after it rains. If I give up hearing I will never be able to bask in a great song, or hear my baby's first words. I just can't chose one -- someone would have to rip it away from me as I clung for dear life.

8. what is your favorite thing about being pregnant?
Feeling movement, and watching my body transform

9. what is your least favorite thing about being pregnant?
fatigue and my nose hurting ALL THE TIME!

Yes. Yes I am.
