DD is 8MO and I really need to get back to the gym! I would need to find a gym with day care and I worry that will make DD really unhappy and wonder if she is too young.

Does anyone have experience with this?

The gym that we go to does not take kids under 1 year, so in order for me to go, I had to go when H was in town during the week or on the weekends. I would check in to that with your gym before you sign up. So once DS turned a year, he went with me maybe a couple of times - didn't really care for it too much - would rather be at home with H.

The YMCA I work at takes babies as young as 2 weeks.

I feel absolutely no guilt in dropping my children off when I go to workout. I need that time for myself and make myself healthy. If they lack a healthy mama everything else I do is moot. Of course, I know all of the ins and outs of the facility so I'm a lot more comfortable with our nursery than I would be if I was just coming in from the general public.

side note---if it is nice outside I will almost always opt for taking the babes out in my jogging stroller. Now that's a win/win.

Look around at the gyms in your area and look at the child watch rooms...

I am a very attached mama who also goes to the gym and uses the child watch. For us it works. My baby is right there and if he wants me they can come get me and I can nurse him or just be with him. If I left him at home with his Dad then it would take me a lot longer to get to him (by the time dh called my cell and I drove home to him) and now I can go back to working out if he is OK again after nursing.

So...for us, it works. It just depends on your child and the gym.

Our local YMCA will watch babies 6 weeks and up for only one hour while mom works out. Way too young for me but I might do it at some point... They also don't allow cloth diapers.

Our gym takes babies at 6 weeks. I took DD when she was that young b/c I was going insane with DH working long hours and staying in the house, so I needed to get out. I was worried she wouldn't do ok, but for the first two months I worked out she would fall asleep on the way there and not wake up until we got back home. Now she's awake when we get there and loves it. It does help ours has a half door right off the main floor of the gym so you can see what's going on in the childcare room.

Our Y will take them at 6 weeks as well. I didn't know about the cloth diaper thing and was hacked when I came in and the sitter told me she didn't change DD because she didn't know how. It was a Gdiaper. I showed her it and explained how to use it..not hard at all. So now when we go its disposable.

Thanks for the responses! I joined a gym the weekend and made it everyday save Easter.

DH and my sister watched DD most of the time. Today we tried the nursery, but DD missed her morning nap and I got about 20 min of yoga in before she started crying (luckily the yoga room is adjacent to the nursery so I knew exactly when she started.)

I think this will work out well and it felt great to get back to the gym. 20 minutes is better than nothing!

I have been wondering about this too.

My babe is 6 weeks this week- right now I go at night after DH gets home and after I feed the baby for bed, usually around 8:30 or 9 pm. However, I am getting sooo antsy and bored in my house, I would love to go in the afternoon. Right now I feel guilty taking him and leaving him in the day care. I worry about him, I guess and I feel like he should be spending the time at home.

I suppose I could go during his nap time, so I know he would be sleeping, but then I feel like he should spend his nap time sleeping in his bed rather than in a car seat....

My gym doesn't do childcare but there is a local mom who does hourly childcare. I haven't tried it yet but if my Mom isn't able to do it I think it would work for us.
