Is it appropriate to have a lot of books on your baby registry? We have many of the items we need already and there are sooo many parenting books I'd love to read. I don't know if anyone will buy them, but is it tacky to have them on there?

ETA: Also, is it inappropriate to put a camcorder on our registry? We'd really like one to record the birth, as well as all the special moments with our baby as she grows

Me too! I don't see what's inappropriate about that. My mom threw me a shower, and sent a request for books instead of cards. People signed them with a special message, and they didn't have to cost more than a card... though I'm sure most did! And why would a stroller/travel system be any more appropriate than a camcorder? I think it would be apparent to anyone that you'd want that to record your new family.

I have a camcorder on my registry. I also have books, but not parenting books, more like things for the baby like le petite prince and bonsoir lune.

I love this. So sweet.
I don't see anything worng with books or a camcorder. I think both are pretty standard baby gifts.

My cousin wasn't able to get the books they really wanted on their registry since Target doesn't carry them. Knowing myself that Target doesn't carry a lot of crunchy-type items, and knowing the kind of parents they want to be, I totally strayed from their registry and got them the Dr. Sears Baby Book, The Nursing Mother's Companion, and a Moby. She just about cried when she opened it. She said, "How did you KNOW?!?!?! We weren't able to put them on the registry!"

If there are books you want...GO FOR IT!
I love giving books a gifts, and I would hope that there are more who think the same!
