I don't think you would get looked at like a monster for BF! LOL And if they did I would keep on doing it! I am near Oly so not too close to Gig Harbor. Sorry.

You're in good company, there are LOTS of local MDC mamas! There's the Crunchy Mama's group (contact indiegirl) and there's the Kitsap-AP yahoogroup. Between the two of us there's a wealth of people to welcome you to the area!

Here's a link to the La Leche League of Kitsap, there's south Kitsap (minutes from Gig Harbor) groups. Breastfeeding isn't weird around here, there are wonderful parks, etc. I'll PM you with the Port Orchard LLL leader, she's fabulous. She might not reply right away as I think she's out of town but you can at least connect! Also feel free to email me about the Kitsap AP group.

But I would prefer to be around people who take it for granted that I DO extended BF instead of people who don't, eh?

Welcome! I live in GH, as do many of my crunchy friends (most in the group DD was telling you about). There is a laid- back local LLL group here led by Kathleen, and two very active LLLs within easy driving distance (PO and Tacoma). Never have had a cross glance about nursing.

We have crunchy knitter's night every Wednesday at the Yarn Garden here in GH, and usually a playdate every week or so. The Moms are also getting together to walk off our jigglies. This is a thriving arts community, and very family oriented.

Schools are available in almost every type imaginable, but not so much in town, but there are a lot of homeschoolers here. In GH, there are some Montessori schools ($$) and the public schools don't entirely suck.

The only places we fall down I guess are that

A. GH predominately looks preppy as all get out. The people are fairly reserved for the NW, and that's kind of unusual for the surrounds.

B. There are no specialty grocery stores and you have to go to Tacoma for Marlene's or Trader Joe's. The local mainstream groceries all carry organics, but if you want to bathe in the NFL ambience while you shop, you'll have to drive

Can't wait to meet you!
