DH and I - well, I - have been so obsessed with deciding over prenatal and labor care providers and the fetal echo that we haven't given a thought to names. I was trying to convince him that we should go for something that reflects my Scottish heritage, which my family is SO into, but he didn't like the names Maisie or Ainsley. He would like another international name. Our daughter is Layla. How about some other choices? Oh, and it has to be two syllables because she's going to have a long last name. We found longer names just don't work.

I don't know where it's from but my friend has a daughter named Elea. I love it and I'd steal it if I could. I had a friend from Australia with the name Leisha. You could go with some names from Sweden:

Astrid
Tindra (popular at the moment)
Pia
Petra
Lil (my MiL name)
Ylva
Linnéa (my daughter's middle name)
Elin
Annika
Malin
Solveig
Stina
Frida

I have a Scottish friend who's currently preggers and she loves the name Iona. But Swedish people would never be able to get their mouths around that name-too many vowels. My sister has suggested Greta if we have a girl.....doesn't work for me.

Good luck!

My favorite girl name is Annalise (German). We would have used this but we are having a boy. It is three syllables sorry, but I think it is so pretty. I have spent a lot of time looking at the book A World of Baby Names (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/039...ance&n=283155), there are 30,000 names from just about every part of the world!

We are naming this baby Astrud (after the basanova jazz singer...long story) if it is a girl!

I have a copy of A world of baby names that I bought when I was pregnant with my 11 year old dd and it is by far the best book!

Couldn't help replying (from the December thread)

I would make sure that the name is not too international. I have a very long, complicated Greek name (after my grandmother), and it has been exhausting to spell it for people all my life. And in school, whenever a teacher would pause over a name, I'd know it's mine! LOL

BTW, I love the name "Annalise."
