Okay, i'd suggest a SSC or a soft structured carrier.
For under $100 you can get an...
ERGO
or
PATAPUM
I have a Patapum and dh and i LOVE it, ds is 5 months but 16lbs and we walk and hike ALOT! We've had him in it for 5hrs, with a short 15min out to change and feed on the trails and he felt weightless, w/out any shoulder or back fatigue or soreness.
Just google them. Do note that the Ergo is widely sold, the Patapum is Italian but sold in a handful of online shops stateside but are easily to buy...they range about $70-79 and the Ergo is about $95
Both are HIGHLY worth it, the construction and comfort...oh and the support is AWESOME!!
An Ergo will fit a child whose even 4-5 yrs and up to about 40lbs. A Patapum has 2 versions, a baby Patapum which fits up till they are about 18months and a toddler Patapum which fits 18months and above. I have the baby and m son is quite long and I feel he'll be graduated to a toddler patapum. before he's a year
Do note, if you or your husband are extremely extremely extremely thin-i'm talking stick thin, you might not be able to get both carriers tight enought to be comfy or if either of you are on the extremely fluffy side & buy an Ergo, you will need the waist extenders that Ergo sells...If your extremely fulffy and buy a patapum they come with really long waist straps which roll up.
These r the ultimate in comfort and are easily switched between parents...just pop in and adjust to your comfort! Oh and the price is well well well worth it!
Oh and both have sleeping hoods.
Hope this helps!
