giving blood for men

I thought I read somewhere that donating blood was good for men (specifically) for some reason. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Also, what about drinking red wine? I thought that was beneficial health wise for men too...

I've read that it helps to get rid of excess iron which might reduce certain cancers (prostate?)

Women don't have the same need since we menstruate.
