Because I am expecting to once again have enough milk to feed a small country, I am planning to pump a couple of times a day when this baby arrives and donate the milk to my friend who has low duct tissue. She will be TTC in July, so her baby will not arrive (assuming she conceives easily) until mine is about 9 months.

We are thinking the ideal way to store the milk is in my deep freeze in 4 oz. glass bottles. Does anyone have any idea where to get a large supply of them at a reasonable cost? She is checking with some suppliers and the area milk bank, but I thought maybe someone here had done something similar and might have some ideas for us.

Thanks!

Have you tried searching online? Or looking at ebay? I think Medela and Evenflo both make them....you could also contact a local retailer (or an e-tailer) and see if someone will cut you a price break.

If it were me, though, I'd probably use the Medela storage bags - you can lay them flat and they won't break if they fall out of the freezer. I think glass is a great idea for feeding, though.

I have some of the My Mommy's Milk bottles, but they are not exactly cost-effective given that we're anticipating using 4 a day or so -- although contacting a local supplier is a good idea. With my dd, I always used the plastic bags, but I know that glass is slightly better preservation-wise (in terms of antibodies, etc.), and I *suspect* more airtight than plastic, which is a concern since we'll be storing it for quite a while before it gets used.

My friend is working on some suppliers and other sources...I just thought it was worth a try to see if anyone had any ideas. Thanks for your suggestions!

Can you freeze glass? When I was pumping and storing my "emergency stash"
when my ds was under a year old I stored it in the plastic bags. I prefer glass to plastic because plastic concerns me. But I always thought that you couldn't freeze glass? Am I wrong?

I think jelly jars would work just as well as the glass jars made for storing breastmilk, and it would be A LOT less expensive. Although I did just order some of those Mommy's milk ones, because they are so darn cute. I'd like to get some glass bottles as well, but the nipples on them are so tiny. My first son refused tiny little things like that and would only use the nipples that were really large. Any other options out there?
