I have a 10mo dd and I recently got pregnant and miscarried and my supply has dropped, alot..I have been using a SNS and supplimenting with formula. My family has goats and they have fresh milk every day. Would it be ok to switch to fresh goats milk?

search the main MDC page for "Goat's milk formula". Apparently straight goat's milk can be hard on a baby's kidneys, because its so high in protien.

I did wean my DS1 to goat's milk at 11 mo. because I was pregnant, but wish I would have read about the formula first because he won't switch now.

Also, could you try taking some herbs etc. to up your supply, or are you emotionally done with bFing?

I'm sorry to hear about your loss mama.

From what I've heard about the whole milk/baby's kidney's thing, it's very important for newborns and apparently not a concern by 1 year of age. For a 10mo, I'd consider using fresh raw goat milk as long as it wasn't a huge percentage of the baby's diet. Do you have an idea of how much breastmilk she's getting? How much does she eat in terms of solids? Actually an easier way to figure this out would be to simply ask how much formula you're currently using per day. Is it less than half of the amount most babies her age would be getting if they were fully FF?

Ok, so is it possible to rebuild my supply? There are times when dd will try to nurse but pulls away cause nothing is coming out, so I either put on the SNS or give her a bottle. I have been drinking Oasis Lactation Tea..I also need to be taking Fenugreek to help out.

I don't feel done. But it is soo discouraging right now. uugh..ok, also, should I pump like crazy in between her feedings?

Due to my lack of supply, I have been supplementing probly close to 16oz of formula a day and then whatever she gets on top of that from me.

Thank you lady's for the encouragement. I can feel that it is going to help me already..
