Going rate for childcare in Atlanta

Hi all - looking for your insights into the going rate childcare in Atlanta. Here's the deal - my mother recently retired, and is going to be doing some childcare for us. I'm looking to pay her a competitive hourly rate. She will be coming to our house, caring for our toddler and, come May, infant. She is a certified elementary school teacher with (obviously) extensive experience with children.

So, looking for info from those of you that know about the Atlanta market for what this would command. It won't be full-time (probably just 8-10 hours/week) and will have light housekeeping, but with childcare as the focus. Also, pls tell if you're quoting before tax, ss, etc or after.

Thanks!

Hi there:

In Decatur, I pay $9 an hour for provider-home-based, part-time care. In my research, $10-$12 (without withholding) an hour was the going rate for nannies, with hourly pay on a part-time basis on the higher end of that scale. With light housekeeping, probably $12 - $13 an hour.
When I was looking into starting a home daycare, the going rate in my area(Marietta) was $130/wk to 175/wk for a really great place. I would charge/pay more per hour for 8-10hrs/wk. Here is a place that has hourly drop off care to give you an idea, too. They are about $5-$7/hr for the 1st child.

I pay $11.50/hr pre-tax for my nanny. Her household chores are limited to baby related tasks such as picking up toys, laundry, dishes.
Monica,

Did you ever start an in home daycare? I have been looking into it as well. I do have an interview with a specialized child care learning center in Kennesaw where we are going to live, because of my experience, but haven't ruled out home care either. I am actually looking to care for only 1-2 children in my vegetarian home if I do.

No. I chose not to do it, at least at this time. We want to be foster parents, so I want to give my attention to that and homeschooling.
