dh is overwhelmed when he goes to change lan'd dipes-he tends to panic when he can't find the right insert/liner/doubler/cover/aio (right now we've got a hodgepodge of stuff we're using), so i promised that i'd go to one single system with the new baby & landon, so he can stay sane.

have you done it? if so, how?

i was GOING to go with fuzzibunz, but would have to buy smalls, mediums, and lan's xlarges PLUS joey bunz for stuffers, which would be close to $500-yikes!!

and then someone mentioned luke's drawers aiwonders. got me to thinking about going with them instead, as there's less to buy/do with them.

has anyone used this system for a small baby and a large toddler?

babe will be about 10lbs & lan is about 30lbs.

do they really fit both sizes, or is lan's PLUMBER going to show?

also, i vaguely recall carolyn selling ld-who's the new owner, and is the product still of excellent quality?

thanks!!

I haven't done this, obviously--i have only one child and a myriad of systems (could never commit to one thing!). BUT, my suggestion is that Growing Greens One-size diapers are a fabulous deal when you get seconds directly from Ashley. They're like 8 dollars each or something and I really like their design. I started using them when DS was 2 months and they fit great (not the contour doubler inside a wrap, but the actual fitted--I'm sure for a teensy newborn the contour ddoubler inside a wrap wouldd work fine). Then just get the same kind of cover, in different sizes, and VOILA --you got it. I guess you weren't really asking for a one-size-fits-both-babies idea, but there's a suggestion anyway (I don't know how they do with toddlers).

Kimi at http://www.newconceptions.com has the poo pocket pattern which is a one size fits all (most) type diaper. she is in the planning for opening up an instock store and I personally swear by her poo pockets. I started them on my ds at 12 pounds (that's when I started cloth diapering) and they fit great then (and I just saw a pict on Jessicas little boy Nate in one at 8 pounds I believe and it looked great!!) and ds is 20 now long and lean and still easily can wear a pp. just another option (hopefully soon, can't wait) to look at.

Maybe try prefolds and wraps? They really are simple, especially if you trim the prefolds: http://kfegelman.home.comcast.net/trimming_pf.html

Obviously, you'd need different sized prefolds and wraps for the two kiddos, but at least it would be the same system for both of them. And if your kids are anything like mine (Julia's a skinny-mini, and Isaac's a tank), they'll be in the same size before the first year is over. I've used premium prefolds and medium wraps (Proraps and Bummis) on both kids since Isaac was about 10 months old. And they really are easy! I've often noted that even if you bought a wrap to go with every diaper, it would still be cheaper than FB or any AIO's that I can think of, especially if you get Proraps seconds which are only $3 each.

Just a thought

WHat about Wonderoos? One size fits all pocket AIOs...sorta like FUzzibunz without the size changes. I've heard good things!

Well, if you don't mind having different sizes, I'd highly recommend knickernappies - I stuff them with prefolds and they are sooooo absorbant! You could get different patterns for your baby and your toddler to help your husband tell them apart. Also, both of my sons wear mediums so your newborn will probably grow pretty fast if my baby is any indication.

we have a couple different things we use but for the most part both kids have prefolds and wios w/ snap ins. at night they both wear apron strings fleece pockets. for covers we use 3 kinds and the girls each have 2-3 of each kind. fuzbaby wool, righteous baby shells, and hand knit soakers.

my dh loves the wios so i save those for him and i use the prefolds. we do have a couple fitteds for each dd too. dh doesn't have to figure any of it out b/c its all the same. he even knows how to snappi. oh, and we don't have doublers just lying around. they are always placed in the diaper before being put away.

I have a couple AIWonders. They are good for nighttime but not good for every day use. Too bulky.

Now, the regular one-size wonders are another story. I really like these on my toddler and they do fit my 8 week old - although they are a little bulky. They dry super fast. The regular soaker is a bit short for Nathan now. But you can order the toddler soaker with them for a dollar more- just email Jane directly. You would need another set of the regular length soakers for the new baby but it could be a workable system.

The quick dry cottan candy's are also great. They come in two sizes. (sometimes in three). The large size fits my 8 week old - again a little bulky - but he'll grow into it. They fit for a really long time.

HTH,

Jen

P.S. You could also go with a two-size system like at www.theposiepatch.com. She has some great package deals.

I'm diapering an 8 week old and a 26 month old in Wonderoos and LOVE them! They work well on both of my girls (12lbs & 29lbs). I would suggest trim inserts for the toddler because with too much bulk, they might be too snug. We still have growing room for the 2 year old as long as the insert is trim.

I also have a few Little Lambs one-size that fit both girls well and there is even more room for my toddler to grow!

I use prefolds and wraps with my 2 (currently 27 mos and 6 mos). They both wear the premium prefolds right now and medium covers. It is so easy that even dh gets it right

I have finally committed to one system...prefolds. DH had the same complaint. It made him too nervous to figure out which doubler went w/what diaper and what cover went over that. I just had to teach him how to fold a pf and Snappi it on. It's a very user friendly system.

I have used LD's and I think they're great for day time, but not night time. I still have a couple to take to the sitters. I also keep 2 HH's for nighttime.

The nice thing about pf's is that they're cheap!!! I use a Prorap cover. There's always some for sale in the TP, if not check out this site for FREE shipping:

www.kellyscloset.com

I've ordered pf's from her before and she is great to work with. HTH and good luck!

I would go with either one sized dipes or prefolds. I love our OS dipes personally. I used them on dd until she potty trained a few months ago at almost 3 years old. I'm now using the same dipes on my newborn. She's 7 pounds and the OS are a bit large on her but they work really well. I just have to pull the waist part down to her belly button level and stuff the crotch part into the cover. No leaks yet! Now just waiting on some better cover so we'll be in business.

I liked AIWs for night, but they are a really bulky dipe, so I did not like them for day. And I can't see them fitting a newborn.

My dh has the same problem, we have so much different stuff that he gets confused. So I use all the different stuff and he uses prefolds when he is changing the 3 yr old and 19 mo old. (And soon baby too!) He likes prefolds and bummis swws, he is better at folding and snappying a prefold than I am. So even though I use fitteds and wool covers, and some AIOs, he just sticks to the prefolds with a snappi and bummis swws when he is doing the changing. I have a ton of newborn and small fitteds for the baby, but will buy a dozen infant cpfs just for him to use!

Oh, and he also complains about spraying the poopy dipe if it is a fitted or AIO, he feels like it is harder to get off because of the shape of them. (Especially since I use mostly elbee fitteds with sidewalls and poop gets stuck in the gussets). He doesn't complain about prefolds though, since they're so easy to hang in the toilet and spray off.

I tried the AIW's with ds and dd as well and they were soooo bulky on dd when she was little. I found them bulky on ds too and he was a toddler... I didn't keep them in those for long. I did like them for nightime though. What about 1 system but with different sizes?

I know what you mean about dh and diaper mayhem...it got to the point with us that dh actually bought what he called "environmentally responsible" tushies diapers -lol. I eventually got it down to fuzzy's...but dh was wearing mediums at 2 and I ended up trading for some smalls for dd...BUT now she's wearing his...he's done with em'. But I really think the best stuffers ever are the hemp hourglass ones. I LOVE them (I have HH and some mama made ones and prefolds) I just put them together and stack them in the diaper closet and now it's not an issue and dh is off the "environmentally responsible ones

When DC#3 was 2 (like 24m) & DC#4 was a baby we did Mother-ease one-size (and a few sized Sandy's) with Nikky, Aristocrats & ME covers.
It was awesome because both kids wore the same dipe. I didn't have to figure out what to bring with me or run out of one particular size. We had about 3 dozen dipes & that seemed to be enough.

You could also do PFs & covers. Depending on the size/shape of your babies they may even fit into the same size PFs.

I have a couple mommy's one touch diapers on my 34lber. They also have extender tabs for thicker toddlers. Check the website to see how to fold down to NB size. I think Jillian's drawers as a 4 for 5 special right now.
http://www.jilliansdrawers.com/

My simple system is pretty much the same as it has always been for 2.5 years now. .. prefolds and a cover. The cover is really the only thing that has changed. I started out with a Gerber pull on covers, then got me some bummis super whisper wrap, then I got some wool, now I use bsww and wool. I only have about 4 fitteds and I don't even really like them.
