Hey mama!

I used Gonal-F for my last IVF cycle (along with Repronex) - it is basically the same as Follistim so I don't think you will find much difference there if you are considering changing drugs (I think you are using Follistim now?). The Gonal-f (injected sub-q) gave me HUGE red welts and painful bruises, fun huh? It is very commonly used and works well, but as I said is basically the same as Follistim.

Why would anyone flame you? Because IF drugs aren't "natural"?? I am asking because a fellow IVF mom who posts here asked me if I had ever gotten any flak because I have IVF in my signature and I never even thought about it being an issue here, is it?

XOXO

Hi Phoebe, thanks for the info. Yes, i did follistim, but when I posted, I had thought they were going to put me on Gonal F. I really had no side effects & it produced 1 nice follicle.

about the flaming.... well... i've gotten negative comments IRL like "Oh, isn't that how people have litters", etc (from a friend who was smugly holding her newborn second child
).

oh ctdoula - I am sooooo sorry anyone responded that way. Of course that is what my fam said about Clomid too...the "litter" thing.

I haven't had to do injectables...so I don't have anything to say. I hope that everything goes well!

I also used Gonal F with an IVF cycle and I now have a lil guy. The process was intense but really not so bad. I didn't have any bruising or welts. I found progesterone shots to be the worst and I got through those too.

No flames from me! And I would certainly hope you wouldn't find any here.

I remember hearing the litter stuff when I did Clomid with my first two pregnancies...actually the first time I went to see a "specialist" (HA! It was 17 years ago and I certainly would NOT have considered him a specialist) he rudely said I needed "fertility drugs" while I was on the table and all I could think of was the People magazine front cover that had the picture of the woman who had 6 babies from "fertility drugs". I think it had come out just the month before. I was scared!! I quickly found another doctor and learned as much as I could about these things

I hope it works for you

Yup. I found them to be quite easy. The needle was so fine I could barely feel it & I never had any welts or bruising. After 4 cycles of IVF I finally got my precious miracle. Good Luck to You!

LOL - yeah - I have heard a few comments in that vein myself.
When I was pregnant with Eliza, one woman at work refused to believe I didn't have 5 babies inside me (we transferred 5 embryos that cycle, *gulp*) - she was convinced I was going to be surprised with a "litter" (her words).

Hugs to all of us! Down with IF and down with fertile myrtles having anything to say about any of it!

I used gonal-f in an IVF attempt after 6 months of clomid use for IUI. I didn't think the gonal was that bad. But, I don't really mind shots that much, mind you I don't enjoy them either, but they don't really bother me. I didn't bruise or get welts or anything. IMO the progesterone shots were the worst by far. But, everyone's different. HTH
