My hair is ridiculously curly. I'm not particularly fond of it when it's curly, so I straighten my hair with a flat iron most of the time.

Because of the strength of the curl, water is my hair's #1 enemy. My hair is sort of like the Wicked Witch of the West. Rain, humidity, the shower...moisture makes my hair curl right back up like a spring. So, taking a shower is a pain in the ass, especially if I'm in a hurry and don't have time to totally redo my hair or if I wasn't planning on washing my hair that day.

Problem is that since Willow was born my head has become a grease-ball. I use very little product in my hair, so that's not the issue. And even if I wash and condition my hair, then pull it up in a knot with a scrunchie, by the time 24 hours rolls around, my hair is heavy and stringy looking due to the oil build-up.

I've taken to sprinkling some baby powder in my hands and rubbing them through my hair. It really helps to soak up the natural oil and the excess powder brushes out, so I don't look like an old granny with white hair.

In the past year I've tried to find some of that old school powder shampoo...powder specifically designed to cleanse hair without needing water...and the only place I've found it has been at the Bumble & Bumble salon...and it was EXPENSIVE.

BUT--tonight I tried to search it again...and this time, I think I've hit paydirt! I found a website called Krishna.com and not only does it sell a large array of scented dry shampoos, but they are very inexpensive!!!! I'm so excited to try them. Finally, my persistence has paid off!

Wanna see what I'm yammering about? Here you go:
http://www.thekrishnastore.com/Detail.bok?no=2807&bar=

I am not 100% sure that this powdered shampoo is meant to be used without water. It says that the water has been removed from the shampoo itself to eliminate the need for preservatives. It kind of seems to me like you are still supposed to use it like regular soap. :

Thanks for this site, btw. They have some really awesome things. I love the little, rolling elephant in the toy section!

Here- I felt so bad about raining on your parade that I went Googling. I found a couple of waterless shampoos that seem reasonably priced.

No Rinse Shampoo

Biolage scalptherapie

And here's a recipe for making the stuff yourself-

Dry Shampoo Recipe

I get products from Sephora a lot from a relative who works for them. She doesn't have enough time or skin to try out everything and get feedback on the quality. So I'm her guinea pig.

She gave me a bottle of Stilla hair refresher, in jade blossom. It's like heaven. Seriously the scent is amazing and light. The product doesn't make my dark hair look dull. It's my little secret for looking great when I realize I need to wash my hair, but don't have the time. I got the bottle (2.6 oz) over a year ago, and I still have half the bottle left. It poof's out of the bottle lightly so you never use much (it looks like the B&B product is a spray, this one is not). Yeah it's a lot of money ($28) but like I said this stuff lasts forever.

LOL yeah but once I'm hooked on the product, I have to pay. Sometimes it's better to not know how good something is, when you'll never be able to afford it again.

OH that was the only time I got free shampoo. Usually it's some eyeliner I would never normally wear or blush or something. Usually some really weird color too. Feel better now?

I didn't realize that you had to add water...but since I already ordered it, I may try it without the water anyway...

Thanks for the links, though. I will have to check those out...since you rained on my parade and all.

I Krishna.com!!

didn't know they sold hair powder... my hair dressing SIL-to-be peddles that bumble and bumble powdered gold to my mom. i bet she'd be stoked to find an alternative source.

BTW, that B&B hair powder *does* work some awesome magic. My mom uses it to cover her growth between trips to the salon, covers up her grays wonderfully. Hopefully this krishna.com powder does the same!

ETA: I know some old timers who suggest corn meal to soak up grease, and since the particles are plenty large, they come right out.

You know, I just went back and re-read the page on the Krishna hair powder and I honestly can't say that I think it's meant to be used with water.

I do see that they mention the whole thing about "no water, no preservatives," but I don't know that that means one has to add water to use it...

Hmmm...I guess I'll have to wait and see if they include instructions when I get my package. I'll post a review for sure.
