So we were lying on the bed and dd (6 going on 16) was reading aloud to me "Grover's Guide to Good Manners." After she finished, she returned the book to the shelf (what good manners!) and said, "now I will reread one of my favourites." And what do I see her pull down? <i>How to Talk so Kids will Listen and how to Listen so Kids will Talk.</i><br><br>
I said, "what???" (Actually I have known that she reads this book for some time now ... just the cartoons. or so I thought)<br><br>
She said, "you know now I read more of this book." <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/eyesroll.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="roll">

He he! When I was 6 I used to read Dr. Spock, particularly the section about the 6 year old. He wrote that all good nabits were forgotten at six, and there was a drawing of a boy who was hanging on the table, eating sloppily and making a mess. I remember thinking I was not like that at all.

that is funny, rabbbitmum.<br>
MIL has a very old edition of Dr. Spock which I find fascinating from an anthropological perspective. I would have to compare it with the later editions to see how much of it has changed. Though the opening line, "Trust yourself" is still nice to read, typed out in bold on a page like that.<br><br>
update: dd announced that she is going to write a book, "How to Talk so Parents will Listen and how to Listen so Parents will Talk."<br><br>
She started telling me about one of the chapters, which includes tips on how to "Show that You are Listening." some of it was, "don't walk around while they are talking. I know this from my experience."
