I take a warm clean washcloth and once or twice a day, wipe DS's eyes. Go from inside corner to outside corner. If need be you can also massage the tear duct gently. Watch for any signs of infection. Use different parts of the washcloth for each eye to prevent cross contamination should your little one have an eye infection starting.

I agree with the previous posters. As long as the goop is yellowish and not green and pussy, and her little eyes aren't red and swollen, it's probably just blocked tear ducts. Warm cloths and gentle massage of the area should clear it up in no time. I also used a dry baby face cloth (a new one each time) to dry DS's eye after I had used a warm wet one. Bacteria grow better in a moist environment. I also did this after washing his bottom
. Worked wonders for preventing diaper rash.

Congrats on your new bundle

Our little one is almost 3 months old and still has blocked tear ducts. We're still trying massage, I have done the BM in the eye but that didn't help. We now have a prescription for eye drops we're going to try. Hope your little one's clears up soon. and Congratulations!

I agree with everyone else. My ds had this when he was a newborn (now 2 months). I just used a warm washcloth to clean them out several times a day, and massaged the inside corner underneath his eye to unblock the duct. It helped clear his right up. If the goop gets green, then I would contact the pediatrician to make sure there isn't an infection.
