I've been feeling like crap for so long now, I really really needed this today. We got a good strong heartbeat today (12w) and the bean made some kind of movement while we were listening that made that nice THWUB sound It was so nice because even DH broke out in a big grin when we heard it. Last time he just kinda nodded and went, "Huh, that's cool." Heart rate 170, all looks good! MW gave me a hard time about my weight loss, wants me to come back in two weeks, but I don't blame her- I've been eating horribly and she gave me some great information/resources to help me eat better, like setting specific goals for each day rather than the whole overwhelming "pregnancy diet" that makes me eat nothing because I feel like nothing is "right."

Anyway, even BETTER news, is that DH might be coming around on a homebirth! Last birth was in a hospital with MW and was lovely, but I don't want to go that route again. So we're at a birth center this time, but they also do homebirth and I don't have to decide until 32 weeks. So I broached the subject today with the MW and DH, I wanted her as sort of a go-between because when I've tried to talk to DH in the past about it he just shuts down. I think hearing a "professional" talk about the safety and precautions and such made him feel a lot better. And the fact that it's cheaper Hey, whatever gets him to accept it! I've been thinking about homebirthing regardless of his opinion, but I really want him to be onboard or at least pretend to be supportive, and today was the first time I got a glimpse of that being possible! Woohoo! Good day!

Now if I could just stop feeling so SICK!

Oh wow leigh you had a wonderful day! How exciting to hear your little jumping bean! My dh was very nervous about a hb at first too, but once we did it, he bragged to all his guy friends that there is no way we'd ever do it any other way.

Awww, the heartbeat is such a sweet sound.

Sounds like DH is coming around. I know with my DH, when I mentioned homebirth at first, he was like 'no way'. But after we met with the MWs and they discussed it with him, their training, their experience, the safety precautions etc, he did start to see it as a viable option. And I think it just gestated as an idea in his head and he became more and more comfortable with the idea as the pregnancy progressed. By the end, he didn't even want to consider any other options! Hopefully your DH will also warm to the idea.

Great day!!

My midwife told me that she is equipped with everything that the birth center is, except that it's in the privacy of our own home.

Does your mw have another mw or associate she works with that's got neonatal resuscitation experience, etc..? It was important to me that there will be two of them here just in case something happens to me or the baby.

Here in California, the mws are certified through the same licensing board as the doctors are in the state, so it's supposed to be rigorous.
