I received my shipment of diapers - prefold dsq cpf's. Now what? I'm supposed to wash them and dry them many times? How much, if any and what kind, of detergent should I use? Can I use dreft?

Thanks for your help!

Wash on hot
Dry on hot
repeat 4-5 times until they absorb water when you pour it on
Use a "harsh" detergent, like tide - no fabric softener or bleach or oxy

No, I would not use Dreft. I would use something that does not have bleach or fabric softner. So you don't want a detergent that say "Tide with Bleach" or something like that. You use about 1/4 of what you use to use! Wash them and dry them about 5 times (if unbleached - meaning a tan color) you need to wash them a few more times. Wash and dry on HOT HOT HOT (this is for cpf's). they will become more absorbant the more they are washed and dryed, so next month after you've used them a zillion times, they will be even better!!

You can also boil them in a stock pot to help break them in faster, or turn up your water heater (just don't forget to turn it back down). I also will just pour a big pot of boiling water into the washer to help break them in faster.
