I am wanting to give my ds some kind of little celebration every year. We mostly unschool but he likes being in "a grade" (as in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd etc.). I want to make a special time each year to celebrate him moving into a new "grade" but I'm not sure what time of the year I should do it or how. Should I do it when regular school gets out and celebrate and "graduate" him a grade then or wait until the fall when all of the homeschool paperwork gets turned in or just at some random time during the year?

Also, does anyone have any ideas for what the celebration could be like? Should there be a little ceremony? Should it just be our family or should we invite some friends and family? I know I want to do something, I just don't know what. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated.

That is a really good idea. I can share what we do on New Year's with you, I think you could use. All year long when there is a special event, great photo, special artwork, found treasure... we put them in a box. On New Year's Eve we look through and remember/celebrate what we have done. HTH

I think either at the begininning of the school year or the end so that for any activities that are devided up into grades he will know where he is. does that make sense. it is hndy for my children to have a grade to tell people so they will know which group to put her in.
