We have been using Cheer free powder & Oxyclean, washing warm (we have very hot water heater) & good to go for our Kissaluvs & cotton prefolds. We haven't been able to find the Cheer free @ Sam's, so we just bought a huge All Free liquid, do you think I'm gonna have trouble switching? Will switching cause more residue build up on my fleece? Do you think liquid is better than powder? It is certainly cheaper! DS is becoming a heavy wetter so I am buying more hemp & fleece, is this gonna get complex? I hope not!

Hmmm. Not much advice here, I use different brands than you. If you are worried about build up, you could always add some Calgon to the washing routine.

We cannot use scented or non "free" detergents (well, we could, but I'd break out in itchy bumps and wouldn't be able to be around Gavin because I'd have an asthma and/or allergy attack) so we use Cheer Free. I wanted to save some money so I got the big container of All Free at Sam's as well.

I'm still cursing the purchase. It was the start of the first problems we ever had - before that, never a smell, never buildup, never anything.

Granted, our water is hard, but it caused hellish buildup when the Cheer caused little buildup even not using Calgon.

So what we do now is use the All Free for all laundry BUT the diapers. I just buy a really big container of Cheer free (a lot cheaper per laundry load than smaller containers) and use that on the diapers.

Of course, depending on your water, YMMV.

ahhhhh, thank you all so much for your posts! I also have been using Cheer free for many years bcz of my fussy skin. We have got to find a store that carries a large container of it, tho. My local grocery only carries a small. I will have to stick with it for the dipes, & do as Vein says. Then strip the fleece as needed. Sigh. With all this work I shall have to reward myself with more diaper purchases!

Now about the Calgon... This is good for the hard water? How do I know if I have hard water, I think I do. Soft water feels sort of "slimey" like I've not rinsed off completely in the shower, is that right? How much Calgon? Does it also build up, or does it prevent build up? Is it ok on hemp?

TIA for all your experience mamas!
