I am moving to Ashburn next week and all of a sudden panicked.
Where will I shop at a thrift store?
Where the heck is the Asian market!?!?!!??! (can't beat the produce).
I'll drive a half hour for the thrift if it's a good one. I typically go at least every 6 months to stock up for the season and there's a really good one in Laurel, MD that is just awesome. I've been going there since I was in high school and hate to let it go, but if there's nothing that really compares I'll drive the 45 minutes (or longer lol).
That particular store is in what used to be a grocery store, it's huuuggeeee. I can usually get kids clothes for under $1 each, lots of times better than that on half price days. Ah the thrill of the hunt.
And the asian market; I can't see paying grocery store prices for produce!
So any suggestions I'd be thrilled.
I hope I make it around o.k. there. We were trying to find my son's school today and got lost about 4 times because of the different variations of Waxpool Road, road closings, and various other things. With my job I go house to house so I'm terrified I'll be late from being lost, etc. Really thinking about a Garmin right now lol!!! (anyone have $700?? ROF!!).
Off topic, Verizon already disconnected our DSL because we have an order in for a move and they automatically disconnect (without telling you) immediately upon order. So now I'm using the painful free dial up they provide in the meantime.
See you all next week!!!!
(back to packing, ugh)

One of the biggest Asian Markets that I know of is Lotte Plaza in Fairfax at
3250 Old Lee Hwy. I'd say at least a good thirty minute drive from Ashburn (sans traffic), but they might also be able to give you some other closer recommendations.

NOVA is a haven for Asian marketgoers. Annandale and Falls Church both have considerable selections, as does the Seven Corners/Bailey's Crossroads area. There's a huge Korean population which has a shopping center in Annandale around Rt 50 and Gallows Road; the Eden Center at Seven Corners in Falls Church has an entire minimall of Vietnamese stores and restaurants ... I can look up further specifics for you if you want. But you don't have to look far in the NOVA suburbs for an Asian market - they're basically everywhere.
Welcome to town! Mind the traffic

The thrift stores, I forgot about that part of your post. You'll find the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores around here chock-full of choice stuff that other towns' thrift offerings can't touch. The Salvation Army superstore on the main drag in Manassas comes to mind, as well as the Goodwill store at the Willston Center in Falls Church. Also the consignment shops around here are worth a look - some are pricey, but they're full of swank.
