Green Tea?

1213 Views 20 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  oceane
I've been drinking green tea to help with CM, but I was wondering (since I don't really like green tea
) if I only need to drink it before I O, or if I should be drinking it all the time? Anybody know?

I was wondering this too....
Same thing - I don't really like green tea all that much, but if it works....
I drank it primarily from AF through O. I love the stuff though. My favorite was a green tea with red antioxidants: red rooibis, lycopene, anthocyanins(?).

That alone would significanlty increase my EWCM.

I'm also interested in green tea. Did you get yours (with red antioxidants) at a health food store? Also, I've heard that it can decrease your body's ability to absorb folic acid ... has anyone else heard this? Right now I'm taking a prenatal with 1mg of folic acid but am wondering if I'll have to take an extra supplement just in case.

Any adivce? Thanks in advance.

I also am interested in green tea to increase CM. I do like it but don't drink it every day, more like in spurts of a few glasses occasionally. What is the recommendation on how much? How many glasses a day?? Also, does it increase all types of CM or just EWCM?? Just wondering b.c I have so little all the time it is hard to identify!
I have never heard of the issue with folic acid, but that's worth researching more.

Salada is the brand name and I find it at the grocery store.

Also, I only noticed an increase in EWCM, but was not paying that close attention to the other CM.....

Thanks for the replies, ladies...I'm also interested in knowing how many cups a day y'all are drinking.
I'm just drinking two cups. I feel it's more for staying hydrated and getting some of the general benefits of it (healthwise, fighting radicals etc) for me.
I´ve found a great brand at, of all places--Costco in California. It´s matcha green tea straight from Japan and 100 come in 1 box. Tastes very fresh. mmmm....
I posted a very similar question about green tea in the pregnancy forum yesterday. A mama that answered stated that green tea blocks the absorbtion of folic acid in the body. That makes me nervous...I've never heard of that before so I will be researching today. I am currently TTC #2 and I drink about 4-6 8oz cups per day.
Green tea should be enjoyed as a supplement between AF to O, then stop due to the folic acid issue. If you don't like the taste of it, it is available as a pill "green tea extract." This is what is in the Stanford Fertility Blend. It can also be iced and drank quite liberally. I ice a moroccan mint green tea and it's amazing. Drinking it for the FP should not pose a folic acid issue, but it's not recommended once you are pregnant (or could be). In addition, keep well hydrated in general, helps the overall cm.
HTH!
My Family Practice doctor said to avoid Green Tea during pregnancy. I didn't question her as to why. I see an OB for pregnancy so I will ask her on the 17th when I see her for the 1st time.

I am have to be extremely cautious about Folic Acid absorption. I am on prescription strength right now (I have a child with special needs already and I am at high risk).

Bolding what I am questioning. I'm not sure if this is correct. I have a child with a form of Spina Bifida. The Spina Bifida Association recommends prescription strength Folic Acid 3-4 months prior to conceiving plus the 1st trimester of pregnancy. So I would have concerns about taking anything with green tea while actively TTCing or pregnant.

After reading this I began searching for info on this. I found this article:

thanks treehuggin' for the article. i found it very helpful and seemed to coincide with kat's concerns. i'd been recommended to take green tea only until O, but it seems that this should be evaluated by every woman individually, esp. if you haven't been taking pre-natals very long. i've been taking them for (sigh) a year ttc but i may cut back on the green tea a bit after this discussion. i have a cup or two until i O.

kat, i'd be interested to see what your OB says. i'll ask my acup. this week about it because she recommends the Fertility Blend that has the extract in it.

This is good info....I think I'll be cautious and skip the green tea completely. Anyone know of bad side effects for EPO? I know it can't be taken after O but I'm going to start charting this coming month so I'll know exactly when to stop.
Thanks for the above article. I just moved the green tea to the BACK of the pantry. I think it's better to be safe than sorry. I haven't been taking prenatals, however, I do take a whole food vit. B supplement. I also just bought some additional folic acid to start taking today.
My experience with green tea has been very positive. I try to drink it daily from CD1 to ovulation and I have excellent EWCM. I am also taking a prenatal multi with folic acid in it and have recently had a huge blood work up done that showed my folate levels to be really really really good. My ND was impressed.

Clearly this isn't scientific evidence and you need to make decisions that you are most comfortable with but my experience has been great.
Ok, after reading this thread I have a quickie question. So what teas out there are safe to consume all through TTC (even once pregnant)? I really enjoy tea and I'd like to find one I can buy that I don't have to worry about stopping at a certain time.
Thanks!

Maybe I should start a separate thread....

I've heard that it can delay O.

Red Rasperry Leaf is good to drink while TTC and while pg....it tones the uterus. I think it is contraindicated if you have a high risk of miscarriage tho.
