I got some great florescent shop lights off of freecycle that I plan to use for grow lights for starting my seeds (things are starting to get kind of leggy) How far fromt he plants should I hand the lights (they are long 5 foot lights that will cover all the plants)? I don't want to burn the plants but I want to get enoguth light. thanks

I've always read that you keep the lights about 3 inches away from the top leaves. Of course, you do need to raise the lights every few days. This has always worked for my seeds. I even hang them crooked when I have tall plants like tomatos on one side and little plants on the other.

This should be fun. My mum had an old SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorder) Therapy Lamp that she didn't need anymore. Wonder how 'happy' my seedlings are going to be when they start sprouting in the next two weeks
