I was reading the bean section of my Joy of Cooking cookbook and they tell you how to grow your own sprouts (bean, or seed).<br><br>
Anyone done this? I think it'd be fun to grow my own alfalfa sprouts. The sprouts at our farmers market are REALLY good and not too expensive, though, so I might just try bean sprouts for asian dishes.

I have books that speaks of soaking and sprouting various nuts, but I don't quite get the picture of soaking and sprouting either...

I've soaked beans before. It was pretty easy. You can buy sprouting trays but I used my salad spinner and it worked well! Just make sure you have an extra spinner so you can still use it for salad. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

I have a three tier sprouter. I love it and eat sprouts every day. It is fun. And they're very fresh, crisp and cheap.
