I have them too. They STINK!! I was taking a great herbal supplement but it has some stuff in it that isn't good to take while pregnant and man do I ever miss them!! I have been taking metamucil capsules, 2 in the morning and occasionally 2 in the evening and its been helping some. Have you tried that?

When I was pg with baby #1 my Bradley teacher said that carrots have a nutrient that prevents hemorrhoids.

I have had 5 kids and never ever had one. I drink about 2 1/2 pounds of carrots a day from my juice machine. I buy the carrots in a 25 pound bag from the restaurant food-supply store, but I have seen the same size bag at Costco. It's around $10.00

And- I really did have a hemorrhoid once (thank goodness for spell check!) But it was from childbirth, a stupid, preventable thing really. I had no urge to push, yet I knew I was fully dilated so I pushed with all my might for over 1/2 hour and really screwed up every muscle from my waist to my knees, and gave myself an enormous hemorrhoid.

But I don't think that negates the importance of drinking carrot juice, since that was like a traumatic injury, kwim?

(this post is perhaps the most TMI thing I've ever written on the internet. Beware!)

As far as treatment, I had terrible, terrible hemorrhoids after I had Elliot -- bad enough that they they kept coming open and bleeding and I actually developed into a tear in my anus and I thought I was going to pass out from pain every time I pooped.

I tried preperation H and all sorts of other things to heal them up and nothing worked until I decided to treat them like I would any other owie on my body... after every poop I cleaned the area with soap, water, and hydrogen peroxide and slathered on the neosporin. I did it religiously -- I packed peroxide and neosporin in my purse, even. But in combination with metamucil, flax seed oil, and enough water to float a barge, they did finally go away and heal.

Some people find witch hazel really helps, or those things you buy at the drug store I think they are called 'tucks' pads or something... my mind is going blank, I know there is another recipe I know of.... maybe if you do a search for hemorhoids? I think there is some info in the uc forum, in the remedies sticky.

I didnt have problems with them in pregnancy. But for like 2 months postpartum, i bled every time I had a BM

Nothing really helped me.

I have heard grated raw potato helps. But I have never tried it.
