Hi Jessica!
This is the GTKY thread in honor of getting to know you. I just have a few easier questions to start out...

What's your favorite color? What's your favorite color to wear?

What's your favorite time of year?

What are your hobbies? Do you picture yourself including your children in them or are you already doing that?

What is the best piece of advice about birth that you ever heard? And what is the best piece of advice about birth that you would give?

What's your favorite color? Green

What's your favorite color to wear? Usually blue.

What's your favorite time of year?Hmmm, it's hard to decide between summer and fall. I lvoe t to wear next to nothing and swim. Where I grew up fall was full of pretty colors and falling leaves.

What are your hobbies? Scrapbooking is one of my biggest hobbies. It seems though that my only hobby at the moment is Emma.

Do you picture yourself including your children in them or are you already doing that?
My MIL is a big scrapbooker too. I try to have Emma make pictures for her and in the next week, I'm going to work on a scrapbooking page made by Emma.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to your parentling style?
It used to be my mom, but she is pretty mainstream. I guess I'd say my life experiences and my instincts arer my biggest influence. And I try to follow the golden rule and treat her the way I'd like to be treated.

What is the best piece of advice about birth that you ever heard?
The best advice I've ever gotten was probably from the book "Birthing From Within" where she talks about not being afraid to lose control.

And what is the best piece of advice about birth that you would give?
I guess it would be to make informed decision for what you feel is best for you and your baby. Follow your instincts. And also read "Birthing From Within".

Who are your heroes? Do you have a parenting hero? A professional or work-related hero? Who do you admire?

What has been your best worst mistake? (For example I went to grad school in a field that wasn't a good fit for me, but that is where I met my DH. Plus I read a lot of great books in the program.)

what five words would your closest friends/family use to describe you?
dh says "empathetic, loving, caring, intelligent, beautiful" I love that guy.

what's your all-time favorite movie?
I think it has to be "Save the Last Dance"

How many kids do you want to have before you're done?
We're thinking 4, but we'll never limit God and what He chooses for our family. We would always welcome more kiddos.

Cat person or dog person?
Totally dog person. I've liked a select few cats in my lifetime.

Creamy or crunchy peanut butter?
Smooth.

What's your favorite quote?
Hmmm, probably, "Noone can make you feel inferior without your consent"

When you get to play tourist in your hometown, what are your favorite places to visit?
Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, The Ballpark, The fort worth museum, The Fort Worth Zoo, the stockyards

I gotta go. Cranky toddler looking for boobie. I will answer the rest later. This is fun. Makes me really examine myself. I don't think about these things much these days.

Who are your heroes?
I know these are gonna sound cheesy. But they're the truth. I am Christian so one of my heroes is Jesus. I love the way he met people where there faith was at. He didn't do things across the board. He looked at the individual and helped them accordingly. Another o f my heroes is my dh. He works really hard, lots of hours at a job where he gets little or no respect and makes tons of sacrifices so that I can stay home with our daughter. He always puts our needs before his.
Do you have a parenting hero?
I'm not sure that I have any parenting heroes, s pecifically. I used to bu my views have changed and I don't really know anybody that's AP the way I aspire to be.
A professional or work-related hero?
I aspire to be a great midwife someday and I have met many midwives that I would like to imitate traits from, but I really wanna find my own way.
Who do you admire?
I admire all the women who have paved the way for me. The midwives centuries ago who burned at the state because of their courage of conviction. The women who burned their bras so that my daughter can be a doctor or painter or construction worker, if she wants. For the woman who helped to fight slavery and discrimination. I'm not sure if I would have what it takes to lay my life down to make a the change I want to see. I'm kind of a coward like that. :
This one is hard because most of my bad mistakes were just bad mistakes. And even though I have plenty of regrets, I feel like I've learned a lot along the way and I'm pretty pleased with who I've become because of them. I may need to revisit this one.

Having any cravings?
Not really. Morer aversions than anything else. And those change daily. Oh, I do enjoy orange Juice and a good salad a lot more than I did before.

My favorite weekend getaway is the beach. It's about an 8 hour drive to the good beach near here. It's a great place to go to get away. No clothes necessary, just a bathing suit and flip flops. And I love the ocean.

The way people view children. It seems that most people see them as an inconvenience or useless little blobs that get in the way. I hate the way people act about me wanting to have Emma everywhere with me. Like she doesn't belong there (and I don't go to bars or pool halls o r places where she really wouldn't belong). And I hate the way people ignore kids like they don't understnad what's going on around them.

I would probably live in the bahamas. I've always wanted to go there. I've seen pictures of beutiful white sand beaches and clear blue water. I've always wanted to be a beach bum and surf the waves with my kiddos along side.

I guess the biggest life event that led me here was losing my first daughter 10 years ago May. I had a horrible hospital birth experience and it led me to really look into midwifery which l led me to find my calling to midwifery which led me to Natural Living and attachment parenting.

Okay, my brain has shut down on me this week, and I'm finding myself incapable of composing ANY questions (that haven't already been asked of you)! But I wanted all you "Guests of Honor" this week to know that I'm still enjoying learning about you!!

If I could have any job, it would be to b e a midwife. I love natural birtrh and the m iracle of life. I love to be with women during the work of labor and rejoice with them with the birtrh of their baby, the accomplishment of what their body is capable of. It's amazing to watch a new life come into the world. I've assisted at about 50 births and caught about 40 babies and it still amazes me every time. I can't wait to get back to it. But first, I have to be a mommy and that's the best most amazing job. I wish I could do both. But I just don't think I could give a woman 100% right now.

Thanks Jessica for answering these questions honestly and beautifully. I bet you'd make an excellent midwife!
Looking forward to hearing your birth story in July
