I'm fed up with my GYN. I called yesterday because I was having itching, burning when I pee, etc. I've never had a yeast infection before and everything I've read says that if you have one, you need to go in to get properly diagnosed. I figure I either have a bacterial or yeast infection, and possibly a UTI. I didn't call because I wanted a prescription; I wanted a diagnosis. Instead, they told me I could not get in, and later the nurse called me back to let me know they had called in a prescription to treat a yeast infection.

Even if I wanted a prescription, I don't want to just try different ones until we happen to treat the right thing. That's what I feel like they're doing. Part of me feels like I should push for what I want, but, you know, if I have to beg my doctor to see me, then I really want someone else.

So...any recommendations? I'm not planning on having any more babies, so it doesn't have to be a great OB. Just someone who will see me and isn't flippant about prescriptions. Male or female is ok.

I really, really love Dr. Scott Schapker. He practices at Bethany Womens. He is an ob/gyn. I didn't see him when I was pg but my last gyn appt was with him. It was the first time I had met him and I can't say enough about him. Very kind, patient, gentle but very professional. I had several questions and he took the time to answer each one thoroughly. He is up to date on current research and definitely not one to over prescribe or prescribe if it's not needed.

I've been seeing the midwifes for my gyn care up to this point but I liked Dr. Schapker so much, I will be seeing him from now on.

And, he goes to the Mesa office (country club and university) which is really nice

Thanks, mama! He sounds a lot like my dear OB/GYN who I saw here for 7 years. Sadly, he was killed in a car accident. I went through so many doctors to find him (and that was before I even cared about natural stuff), that I haven't had the heart to do a lot of searching. I've been seeing the lady who used to be in his practice with him (and who ended up delivering one of my babies). I was happy with her in the delivery room, but I haven't really been happy with her as a regular doc. Different philosophies, I guess.

Ditto for Dr Schapker. He is one of the rare docs that treats you like you have a brain. I went through 3 OBs before I found him, so I know how hard it is to find someone good.

Yes! It's funny, because I started seeing him long before I became interested in alternative medicine. I was very conflicted when I was pregnant with my 2nd son. By that time I really wanted a midwife or even a home birth, but I loved Dr. Gordon so much, that I didn't want to give him up. He was pretty accomodating about the things I wanted, but he wasn't that knowledgeable about alternative medicine so I pretty much had to do all the research in that regard. There were other things he just wasn't able to support (breech birth, for example) that I wish I had gotten from someone else. At the same time, I think he was a wonderful doctor and a wonderful man.
