Hi Ladies,

With my history of being a doula and NFP I became comfident with my pregnancy body and with my last baby checked my own cervix while in active labor once with her, it was so neat to see where it was at myself.

Well, with working watching an infant and having two kids I decided to check today because it was on my mind for some reason. Did not do checks with my last two ever! (expect in labor) Well I am very, very high and soft maybe even a 1cm..... Just seeing if anyone else at this time checked.....Planning an unassisted and don't want to go EARLY!! 1st born one week early and second born one day early. HMMMMM

i think when you've already had at least one you can hang out at 1 cm and somewhat effaced for a looooong time. i check myself when the mood strikes me, but not because i think i'll get any useful information from it, more because yup, there's a baby in there! and checking usually gets baby moving. i guess it's the closest i can get to actually touching the baby right now. kwim?
i wouldn't worry about 1 or 2 cm at this point.

Yes, I have also been about 1 to 2 cm for the past 3 weeks. Of course it could've started sooner, but that is the first time I checked. When I talked to the doc last time I was there and he verified that I was 1 1/2, 50% effaced, I asked if it was something to be concerned about. He said not really, we will have to keep an eye on it though. I'm baking twins though, so it is a little bit more worrisome regarding PTL, etc.

So I'm not worried at this point, especially cause I know my body does a lot of the work before labor begins. I've always been at least 4 cm before labor started.

MamaRabbit,

"still very high" do you baby or cervix?

Thank you everyone for the info. I have just had one fear of this baby coming early and have to switch that so my fear do not come true!! I tell the baby you have to wait three more weeks, please!! I would really love it to wait until August though. I LOVE being pregnant and want the time more to bond within with the baby and my girls. So I am not ready until August so I need to listen to my gut more and it will work out!!

cervix is still high.

this is your 3rd baby? IME, subsequent pregnancies can dilate earlier and stay that way. That said, if you're doing too much, that can do it too.

My cervix is high and my belly huge, so I can't even reach mine yet. I will check if I have had a day full of contractions, just to see if it moved forward or not. But I have heard many people hanging out at 1, 2 or even 3 cm dialated for a few weeks.

Last time I was checked I was 2 CM and that was a few weeks ago. I've had 3 kids too, so that is probably why. I was talking to another lady in the waiting room at the doctor's office the other day that had been at 4CM for a while!

Yes this is my third baby but my girls are 7 & 4 so its not like they are close together so that must not matter.

Another idea anyone know they are having a girl? Is the H/B high? My h/b tones for this pregnancy have been 128 which is sooooo opposite than my girls and we did NOT find out the gender this time but knew last two times and their h/b's were always in and above the 144 bpm. I have been "thinking" girl the whole time and now is MAY be possible for a boy and that just seems so wierd to me but exciting at the same time. I will be so suprised to meet this little being and can't wait!!

Doesn't sound like a big deal to me. I was dialated to 3 and effaced 70% when I was induced at 41 weeks. I had been that way for 6 weeks so I started dialating at least at 36 weeks if not sooner. Also once you are 37 weeks you aren't considered "early" any more.

I was 4 cm for 2 weeks with my second kiddo, I imagine 1 cm is not much to worry about. If you were having lots of contractions I would maybe be concerned.
