Ugh....ready for this one?
My 2 year old daughter has a nasty yeast diaper rash. It's been terrible to the point where we've been up at night with her forever as she screams and cries and pulls at herself. So, I took her to the MDs yesterday to see if we could get something to calm her down.
I had had a craving for sushi at lunch so my hubby and I went to our fav sushi place and I had seaweed salad and some avocado rolls. Tasted great and totally calmed my craving.
But mid-afternoon I started to feel really lousy - nauseus, headachey, tired, hot, and just all around blah. But I had to get my daughter to the MD so I put her in the car and off to the office we go.
Felt lousy all through the appointment (had to wait an hour and a half in the waiting room) and felt like I was going to throw up, but didn't. Then as we're leaving, I had to put Caleigh down so she could walk b/c I didn't have the strength to carry her, my purse, and the diaper bag. She took off through the parking lot like a bat out of hell. I yelled after her to wait but she just kept running. And then it hit me. I just started to vomit everywhere. It was on my clothes, on my shoes, and all over the parking lot. And Caleigh thought it was a joke that I was initially chasing her so she was laughing and running around the cars. I was totally panicked, but at least aware that I didn't see any cars moving.

The kicker? One woman was getting out of her car, saw me start to vomit while my child is running away from me, and instead of asking to help or helping Caleigh, she turns away and runs inside herself.

Once I stopped throwing up, I managed to grab Caleigh and put her in the car. I called my mom in tears and she had to come with my stepdad to drive us to the drug store and then home, where I still kept throwing up & had diarrhea all night.

I can't believe how hard it hit me and how quickly it came. And to know for a period of 45 seconds, I had no control over my daughter in a semi-dark parking lot with cars all around. It was so terrifying. Anyhow, we're all safe and back at home but to boot, I seem to have picked up a stomach bug, which is why all the other symptoms are rampant.

Bugger!

Thanks for listening,
Oh wow that is terrible!! What a day. What a day. How nice it must have been to be able to get in bed, though you still felt terrible. That must have been so frightening in the parking lot! That mean woman, not helping.

Did you get a good remedy for the rash? I've been learning that there is often something internal going on when there is an outer manifestation. Treating it externally may not fully address it. I bet you could get some good tips on the MDC health board if you are so inclined.

Thanks ladies....I feel much better even reading your posts.

For the rash, we waited for 9 days with all natural treatments, ointments, etc. and also addressed her diet. I agree with you completely about internal causes. I'm a chiropractor so we have a good foundation with regards to taking care of the whole body, not just symptoms. But it was soooo bad and she was in soooo much pain with such little sleep, we had to give her a little children's benadryl which cut the itching AND made her drowsy so she slept like, no pun intended, a baby last night. And the cream we have for the rash now made a huge difference over night so I am so relieved about that.

Thanks for your kind words!

well there you go you know a whole lot more than me then which is probably good! haha. I'm sorry she's had a rough couple of weeks. Have you, in your experience, found relief from coconut oil? We've been using it for a few months and I am to use it on our baby and wondered if you've found that it's been a good ointment, either as a moisturizer after bath or for diaper rash.

Did the MD give you a diaper rash prescription? We're struggling with it too all of a sudden. I think its dietary but I haven't figured it out yet. I figured the only thing they would give you would be zinc oxide diaper cream which is already over the counter.

Oh - and that is horrible!! Sorry about your bad day. I hope you're feeling better. That does sound like an actual sick rather than PG sick.

How horrible that she didn't even try to help with your daughter. If I saw that, I would definitely grab the kid and try to see if I could do something! But maybe she had her own stomach issues to deal with!

Anyway, I hope you are feeling much better today and that it was just a short thing. Hugs mama.

The MD gave us a prescription for a cortisone cream for her bum (small dose) and then also suggested children's benadryl to calm the itching. A little history on it, her rash had been going on for 9 days and was fire engine red all over her vagina with blisters and welts. It just looked so painful. And she was up all hours of the night, crying, screaming, itching, and pulling at herself in pain.

I don't normally "medicate" but honestly? I was so sensitive to her exhaustion and her pain that it was a Godsent. The benadryl not only got rid of the itching ("no more itchy mama") but it helped her SLEEP THROUGH THE NIGHT. Which she hasn't done in 6 months b/c she also gets up at 3:30 AM, crying for some water or rice milk. So, out of guilty admission, I got a slight kickback from the wonders of Benadryl and the side effect of drowsiness. (How terrible is that?? I actually enjoyed the side effect of drugging my child! )

But in our defense, we had tried every natural thing we could think of or that was recommended to us - cornstarch (made it worse since it was a yeast infection), baby powder, zinc cream, baby ointments, calendula, air time, etc. etc. The poor child was just in too much discomfort....it was horrible!

Anyhow, hope that answered your questions re: the rash.

As for me, I'm feeling much better....I think it is a stomach bug or something. I ran a 101 degree fever overnight and still have diarrhea. Called the MW and she said if it continues to be feverish at night and have diarrhea for a couple of more days, I should come in b/c she's concerned about dehydration....coupled with the hyperemesis I've had all this time, she just has concerns. So, hopefully no hospital trips over our Thanksgiving weekend! Keep your fingers crossed!!
