My ds is 11 years old. He has high functioning autism and a whole host of sensory issues. He has had night time uresis, and as he's gotten older, he's become really upset about it.

Each year, we hear it'll pass next year. It's frustrating for him. He wakes up in the middle of the night wet, changes his bed, and climbs back in and has to fall asleep all over again. He hates wearing any type of pull up, so he prefers getting up and changing his sheets.

It's been frustrating for me from the point of doing laundry and having to get up and helping him change his sheets almost every night. But the worst part is the way it makes him feel.

Soooooo, he's been dry 5 out of 7 days the last few weeks!! He's so proud of himself and he is so much happier when he wakes up in the morning. I gave him a big hug this morning and had to leave the room, because I was going to start crying because he was just so happy with himself.

I had to come and share here, because there are not a whole lot of places where people will be impressed and happy about an 11 year old not peeing in his bed!

I'm very happy for you both! I imagine I'll be just as thrilled when my older son reaches that milestone.

Yay for proud kids! Yay for less laundry! Yay for more sleep! YAY!!!

I also was a bedwetter for a long time (older than 10...but by 13 it had ended, I don't remember where in there it stopped), and it bothered me too. There was no medical explanation for it, just a small bladder and me being a deep sleeper (although, now that I know more, I think it was apnea related due to enlarged tonsils and a recessed lower jaw).

So I *so* understand!!!!!

That is fantastic!! Bedwetting is so frustrating for both the parent and the child. I have a completely NT 10 year old son who is a bedwetter. He wears underjams to bed at night and is completely mortified by it. His 2 best friends are going to an overnight lacrosse camp this summer (5 nights). He said "I know I can't go because, you know, then they would find out I wet the bed." It was so sad.
He is able to get through a one-night sleep-over by taking a sleeping bag and just peeing in it but 5 nights is a whole other thing.

Huge congrats to you and your boy!!

That's wonderful! How exciting for him.

kme - Could you talk to the counselors/chaperones about the situation and see if they can come up with a solution where the other kids wouldn't know? If he changed in the bathroom he could put on the pull-up privately.
