Hi all,
Rookie gardener here! This is my second year ever with a garden, and this year, again, my carrots are "hairy" and more yellow than orange. Does anyone know what that might mean? What does my soil need? Thanks!
Hey! Me, too. They are short under the ground but more whitish-orange and definitely not orange. The greens above the soil look nice and they grew pretty tall. I think my soil isn't rich enough. Too sandy.
Well, maybe sandy soil is the issue then. It's pretty sandy here, too. The carrots are Sweet Nantes, and they are definitely big enough, and the tops look fine. I wonder if there's something I could add to the soil to make it better next year.
OK so I pulled a couple more carrots yesterday and those ones looked GREAT. Dark orange, big and beautiful. I think maybe the other ones I just pulled too early
