I'm ordering a ham for x-mas and am trying to figure out what size to get. Is there a rule of thumb for the amount you want per person? I'm guessing it differs for bone-in vs. boneless. I was planning on bone-in but can get boneless if that would be better.

Generally, the rule I've heard is to allow 1/4-1/3 pound of meat per person. So if you have several types of meat, you'd add their weights together.

If you want leftovers, go for 1/3-1/2 pound per person.

I have also heard that bone-in tend to have better flavor.
