yarn for the first time was, well, FUN! But the outcome was not to my liking. I'm thinking that I should have first dyed a skien one full color then experiment. haha Any tips for the n3wb? lol

Well how did you paint it? What did you paint with? How far were the different colors apart? Do you have a picture?

Have you wound it up yet? My first (only) attempt at handpainting a skein of yarn was....unusual? Once it was wound up though it looked alot different. So not what I had in my head though :LOL

:LOL ghetto :LOL

I don't have a ball winder either, so it's just me trying to wind it up before the kids get ahold of it. That happened once I will say that untangling the mess was kind of zen.

Yeah, I just read something about not putting red and green together or you'll get brown.. I guess you learned that one the hard way (I often learn things the hard way!). My yarn is drying tonight from my dyeing foraye (sp?) last night. In total I've already spent at least 5 hours dyeing this yarn! I've never dyed yarn before and I'm sure I did it the hard way! lol

So anyway - to do red and green why don't you put white (or cream - whatever the natural color of the yarn is) between the the reds and greens - it will still be very Christmasy. And if you absolutely hate the yarn you dyed you can always dye it completely brown or donate it.

Well I think you can lay out a skein any way you want to. One of the most common ways is to wrap it around two chair backs that are 5 feet apart so you make one big circle. I did mine very differently from that because I wanted to to self stripe (lots of work) but what I just mentioned is done frequently. How did you lay out your skein?

I think it looks nice

My last attempt was meant to be pink blending into blue through purple. It turned up pink blending into brown with a touch of grey It looked awful until it dried and still looked a bit dodgy wound. But it's knitting up really nice. So don't give up hope

Have fun untangling :LOL My first dye job was a giant mess, I think it took at least five hours to untangle. I tie better now!!

I think the colors are nice, but not what you had in mind. If you use Cherry and make sure you only use a bit of water, you will get red. Hm - I know there is a color chart for wool and kool-aid. Here it is. Doesn't look like you are going to get a dark green from koolaid, but the cherry and lemon-lime would probably be nice.
