I just got a bunch of new unbleached prefolds. I know I need to wash them several times before I can use them, but how important is it to dry them in between? What does the drying do? Fluff them up?

We don't have a dryer, so I would have to either hang them to dry or walk them down to the laundry room and pay to dry them.

I don't have a dryer, so I line-dried my new prefolds between washings. The dryer gives the prefolds a "quilted" look but I don't think it necessarily makes them work any better.

FWIW, I was told to do several washes and then one dryer-dry. It worked really well. So you can just walk 'em to the dryer once, after all the hot washes.

Prefolds take FOREVER to dry. If you hang dry them inside the house, it could take days.

I don't think you need to dry them inbetween the initial washes. I didn't.

I washed mine about 7 times before using them, but I only dried them once. Worked fine for me!

they're in the wash right now... this is cycle 5? 6? I'm losing track

: All I know is they're close to done. How do I know if they're done anyway? Let them dry and then see if they're absorbant? How absorbant is 'done'?
