Not sure if I should put this here or in pregnancy....but I was in the doctor's office and picked up a copy of the Oct/Nov Fit Pregnancy magazine and was impressed when I read a letter to the editor of a woman complaining that the mag had "too much bf" info and "promoted" bf too much. The mag had a great responce saying all the research shows how superior bm is to formula and they will continue to promote it as "the best choice for all babies." As I continued leafing through I kept finding more and more I was happy to see in such a "mainstream" mag. In a "stuff for babies" section they had carriers as a catagory and listed reviews for the New Native and Hold my baby sling as well as the baby bjorn and kelty and had a whole section on breast pumps. There is a write in section answered by Dr. Jay gordon. In an article about getting ready for parenthood they suggested the use of a doula and talked about what they do to help with labor and breastfeeding. There was an article about using a midwife, and a long article which I didn't finish called "adventures in bf" that seemed to speak to the fact that bf isn't always easy, but it is so important for baby.

Anyway, as you can see I was really impressed! Not common to find such info in a mag like that...so I am a new fan of Fit Pregnancy!

A while back, they had an interview with Ina May Gaskin. I think even mainstream is becoming more "crunchy" lately - look at how many new members we have here at mdc!

I agree!! Fit Pregnancy seems to be pretty good for a mainstream magazine. When I was pregnant I read an article on vaccinations and the pediatrician encouraged selective vaccinations based upon the fact that if you follow the strict schedule you'll give your kids A LOT of shots and vaccines in a really short amount of time, etc. It was nice to see someone in a mainstream mag that talked practically about vaxs. I also love their adventures in bf'ing.

It's surprised me quite a few times as well - I started buying it on a whim, expecting it to be as superficial as wedding mags :LOL The person who wrote in about too much bf content is obvious not a dedicated reader ...
