Has anyone successfully applied to a pharm company for prescription assistance? The doc prescribed singulair for DD, and stupid medicaid doesn't cover it. I can't fork out large amounts of cash for meds. I'm actually going to ask the doc to prescribe otc meds that ARE covered so I can save a few bucks (for psuedophedrine, might as well, since I have to go to the pharm counter to get it these days anyway!)

I already pay out of pocket for my bcp's (at universty on-campus pharmacy, so it's cheaper, but still) and levothyroxine. Argh!

I have not applied, but used to assist many elderly in the doctors office where I worked. Typically the drug companies have restrictions on how much the household income can be. If I remember right it was usually $18k/yr for a single and you were allowed more if there were more people living there.
There is a great website called needymeds.com where they list all meds and what the requirements are to qualify for assistance.
Most of the time there is a form you fill out, some ask for copies of tax returns. You have the doc fill it out and the drug co. will then mail the med to the docs office for you to pick up.

A dear friend of mine has MS. She is a grad student with low income and the meds would cap her insurance in a couple of months.

She applied for pharma assistance and gets her meds for the cost of shipping.

I am really critical of big pharma's practices, but this is one thing that is really great. Now, how do we get all of the poor folks in the developing world with HIV free drugs?
