My family went on a little mini-vacation this weekend, and I chose to give our diet a mini-vacation as well. BIG mistake! When at home, basically follow an NT diet, except that we haven't gotten into the lacot-fermentation yet. My nutritionist thinks I may be gluten intolerant, so at home we only eat soaked grains and ezekiel tortillas.

While we were gone this weekend, I ended up eating a LOT of bad stuff. Had doughnuts for breakfast one morning, a sandwich on white bread, french fries, and some sweet breads at dinner. Now I am miserable
, and the worse part is, so is the baby. We are both having a lot of gastrointestinal problems.

What do you all think? Was this cause we ingested trans-fats? I would love to think that, but I have an idea it might be the gluten. Has anyone eaten unhealthy stuff and had their nursling have the same/similar problems?

Thanks for your input!

Could be your intestinal flora ... because you couldn't digest all that stuff completely. And sugar... throws your whole system off. And if you already have seen food intolerances, probably means your flora is not top notch to begin with.

So I don't necessarily think it could be gluten intolerance per se. Just processed food intolerance. Which I swear most people have, they just live w/ the symptoms and think it's normal to feel crappy.

Up the bone broths, they are very healing to digestive system. Cook all your fruits/veggies for a little while, pay attention to what your stomach likes and doesn't like right now. Add some coconut oil/milk in addition to probiotic foods like yogurt/kefir. Digestive enzymes really helped me but go slow b/c your babe might react to detox.

You could give him bifidus to help his system recover. Is he eating solids yet and what? Might want to stay away from grains for him for a long while too, as NT suggests.

Thanks for the advice! We have only been working towards an NT diet since March, so this is all new to me.

I ate some yogurt that I made from raw milk this afternoon, and gave the baby some, too. He is eating solid foods, but we are avoiding all grains like the plague for him. My mother-in-law put a piece of macaroni in his mouth last weekend and I about died!

I just happen to have gotten some kefir grains in the mail while we were gone, so my first batch is brewing in the closet as we speak! We haven't started eating bone broths yet, but I have a half a beef coming tomorrow, and I am supposed to be getting bones with it, so I will start some as soon as I get home from the farm we get it at.

I had no idea that eating the way I used to could cause so many problems. Poor baby, he usually has one to two BM's a day, and we are at 8 today! I feel so bad for doing this to him because I wanted to eat crap!

Do you think it's ok to give him Kefir (just a little bit), or should I just rely on him getting it through breastmilk?

nak.

my last babe was dairy sensitive, but could tolerate kefir well. i think she was 9 or 10 months when she first had sips from my kefir smoothies. if your babe doesn't seem to have trouble with dairy, it's probably fine in small amounts. i would be cautious about giving too much, thoiugh, as you wouldn't want to interfere with your supply.
