My ped recommended Mannatech Ambrotose which is 8 simple sugars. She said some of the parent's who have children with Autism find their children are helped by this supplement. I bought a jar and I couldn't determine if it helped or not. (Speech is what we're aiming for with regards to my son. With his apraxia nothing may help however we are trying.)

I was reading about cell salts and wondered if it might help my son? We've tried vitamin therapy and fish oils with no response. I was wondering if anyone had tried the cell salts?

http://www.drugstore.com/products/pr...627&catid=9807

The only supplement I can tell seems to work is prescription Carnitor (we get generic Levocarn). It does give him energy as his hypotonia is very evident without it. I worry however because long term use may cause seizures. He's been on it since last May.

All thoughts welcome.

Long term use of carnitine does not cause seizures. Where did you read that?

I've used cel salts, but not for that use.

I have no information on cel salts, but I do have a friend sho put her sone on viatmin B12 shots and his speech came back amazingly. He does not have apraxia, but lost all of his speech due to Autism we believe was triggered by the MMR.
"...The reason is that large doses of carnitine by mouth for long periods of time may result in serious side effects (e.g. seizures)..."

"COMMON USES
This medicine is an amino acid used to treat carnitine deficiency. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. If you have serious kidney disease such as ESRD/dialysis, the intravenous (IV) form of carnitine should be used. The reason is that large doses of carnitine by mouth for long periods of time may result in serious side effects (e.g. seizures), interfere with dialysis (increased nitrogen wastes), and cause "fishy odor" to occur.

My son already has a fishy odor at 1tsp a day and his stools smell fishy too.

so supplements can't make his speech come back but it can help with the planning part in some children. Thank you for your reply. I haven't asked his ped about B12 yet.

Right. Large doses. Large doses of almost anything is not appropriate. Appropriate dosage should not cause a problem.

Appropriate dosage is: 50-100/mg/kg/day

Fishy odor and/or diarrhea can be helped with liquid chlorophyll supplement.
